Which RDCs pleasantly surprise you?

Sainsbury Hodesdon (Pindar road).Full trailers with mineral water for 10-15 minute in any and not one time.

Haven’t been in that place in years… is Sainsburys at Buntingford still on the go?

Both Sainsbury site at Hodesdon still working.

Rye Park and Pindar road are open but I think Buntingford depot closed a while ago and the site is being redeveloped.

About 15+ years ago I used to love tipping frozen & chilled food at Lidl Weston-Super-Mare at 6am every weekday!

We collected their product from Belgium the previous day and then went straight to Lidl next morning and backed on ANY
empty bay without asking or waiting grabbed an electric fork truck and unloaded 33 Euro pallets… then had a nice bacon &
egg sandwich and a cuppa from the mobile snack van right there in there waiting area, collected paperwork then straight
home & done!

I often wondered if it’s changed for better or worse and if the tasty mobile snack van still on the premises these days?

I go there from time to time.

You have to book in and be given a bay, wait if someone’s on it.

Unloads easy enough but I have been there about 5 or 6 times and never waited less than 2 hours for paperwork. Has been as long as 3.5 hours.

Not noticed snack van but wil look next time I am there

The mobile snack van is probably long gone… nothing good ever lasts…

Now I guess drivers have to pull out the RDC after tipping and look for a decent cafe to observe their rest breaks! Lol

I’ll second that SB, I was in Tuesday morning, straight on bay, pleasant goods in lassie and clean, tidy reasonable food.

Yes, not bad at all.

and… did you ever tip at Sainsburys in Hackbridge London back in the day?

jesus just thinking of hackbridge makes me sweat. we used to take beer into there 38 ton gross and backing down that ramp to get onto the bays really took it’s toll on the trailer chassis .felt like it would keel over at times :open_mouth:

Ha ha… I know! When it came to reversing skills, that place sorted the ‘Old Hands’ from the ‘Newbies’

I was in there every weekend on the agency back in the day and I loved it & I could back on those bays easily, but
it wasn’t always that way… I only knew how because an ‘Old Hand’ seen me struggling in South Mimms years ago
in a similar tight situation ( I was still wet behind the ears ) and he showed me the technique and from that day I’ve
rarely struggled to back a trailer on any bay, no matter how tight!

Most of the drivers I seen struggling in Hackbridge were trying to squeeze between the other trucks while still bent at
45 degrees and they’d be there all day sweating buckets and thrashing the steering wheel from side to side and puzzled
why it was so ■■■■ hard to get on a bay without practically shearing other drivers mirrors off…

The secret to getting on those tight bays was to take a far wider approach and get your trailer straight before entering
between the vehicles on either side & before going down the slope… Going down straight also meant no chassis twisting!

I miss working from that old depot & also Superdrug nearby night trunking the double deckers up to Pontefract!

I haven’t had a bad experience at Coca Cola Wakefield yet. I’m always straight in, drop, swap, and straight out. The few times I’ve live loaded I’ve been able to sit in the cab, keep my keys, and been loaded within 30 minutes. Also, the gatehouse staff are mostly all ok (at night).

i remember i had to go in to CCSB wakefield for the first time mid 90s ,empty to load layer boards to take back to CMB carlisle urgent urgent!!! load line was going to stop i was the first of iirc a dozen drags coming in after tipping cans at a nearby brewery… followed my instruction s pass the line and get in giving gate men a pickup# (was a sunday) well first part went well until gatemen said NO such # cant go in .by now the 2nd was on my tail he got the same …lots of conversations on radio to carlisle ,instructions to tell the gatemen phone the bloody factory office …nope we had the gate blocked for 20mins before a car came out and stopped at the gate and a lot off handsignals and armwaving .gate was opened and about 6/7o us were stright over to pad and a fleet o forklifts were waiting in and out in minutes .believe it or not the paperwork was brought out as we were pulling the curtains shut and go now go now…a nice handw  ave to the gate and up to CMB.

I used to find Rye Park fine to deliver to. We used to get the odd Saturday subbed to us from CEVA.

I could do a trip down to Rye Park and be home again before the trailer would’ve even been started at Sainsburys Stoke :imp:
That place was a different world.

we do loads into a certain bonded warehouse (not in the UK) pull up , hand in paperwork and get your seal checked and cut off . Back on to the bay and take your keys in to the fork lift driver . 12 minutes later you will be walking out with your paperwork signed and 24 pallets less in the trailer . the forklift has the spreader forks and they bring the pallets out 2 at a time . I’ve never seen a trailer tipped as quick, even the curtainsiders get 2 forklifts each so its as quick as you can open and close the curtains .

Holland and Barrett’s, from memory it was out Burton way. Brilliant subsidised canteen next to the bays. I dint even mind Wilkos at Caldecott for the same reason.

Princes at Bradford are a bit like that too. Once you’re on a bay it’s hard to keep up with the forkie. I don’t mind Princes as I’m always in and out within an hour.

■■■■■■■■■■■ ambient is a dive. And they only have one wagon in at a time so you are parked outside for an hour or two before you go in.

Last time I was at Bradford the office tolde one thing, the warehouse told me another and they kept me on a bay waiting for 2.5 hours while they loaded every Volvo or Scania with a girls name in Yorkshire.

Best RDC for me are probably Sainsbury’s at St Albans / London Colney who actually said, “We were going on tea break but we’ll get you done first”.

Usually in and out of any Aldi in 40 mins or less doing it self tip. Wish I could do it on my own at Tesco as well rather than the obligatory 3 hours in a waiting room.

That’s nothing you should come to Tesco Doncaster RDC (■■■■■■■■■ I was 5hrs in there last week and that was ambient side chill intake drivers were up to 4 hrs parked outside waiting to be called in by Tesco then another 4 or 5 hrs to tip depot needs its arse kicked into to touch by head office or better still somebody reporting to a national paper Tesco’s wouldn’t like to be made a laughing stock of for sure
