Which job to choose?

basically I have pretty much been offered a class 1 local driving job doing days for a steel company with no nights out and working mon-fri!

And I also have been offered a night trunking job out of Canute at gamston!

which offer to take as I’m only a newbie!

any feedback appreciated!

Days are better IMO, depends what the money is like ?
Are you single ? (Because you probably soon will be if you go on nights !)

Days everytime for many reasons.
Did nights for BHS for 6 months mon to Fri for 1 it messes with your body clock spend all week getting used to nights then 2days trying to adjust back.as already said your social life goes out the window be like a hermit.

Hope this helps

Jeff

Nights all the way. I wouldn’t want day work if I could help it.

Nights are amazing.

You can at least avoid the unnecessary expense of paying for a pension, since you will be less likely to enjoy a lengthy retirement

Only you can answer that 1 look at all the options write the advantage & disadvantages to both for you personally then make the decision which is right for you

Be VERY careful at Canute I had a friend work there very recently who left because they were asking him to work outside the law lets say !!

Well I’ve been there today for an assessment drive and to say it was my first ever go in an artic it didn’t go too bad, I felt much more relaxed than on other assessment drives and didn’t stress too much either which has been a past problem. It was in a scania r-something or other haha! 3 over 3 gearbox with splitter and I found my way up and down the box without playing any tunes.
He did say to me before we went out that he would not really be willing to send me on days just yet quote “I don’t want you to send you out in a 56mph 44tonne missile without having ever driven one” and we’ve agreed that I’m going to be shunting with another fella in a distribution centre for a week to get some reverse practise and coupling and uncoupling experience and then he’s going to put me on nights for a couple of months to get used to it all before he sends me in any “tight spaces” and then put me onto days which I can understand really! It’s been a lot more professional than some other places I’ve been where it’s a case of oh, you’ve got a license have you? Off you go then! Lol

Shunting sounds a good idea matey gets you used to reversing just be careful they dont say “oh your doing well on nights be good idea to stay on nights”.
Done night’s once never again like being healthy too much lol.

Good luck with your new job

Jeff.

Well I’m in a bit of a pickle now because I’ve got the other company ringing me and that is further to travel to get to the yard but it’s just days, local runs, no weekends and as far as I know, about the same money! And some of the horror stories flying around about Canute are rather worrying!

At Canute I think he said the pay was £373 for 50 hours plus £27ish bonus a week for showing up! nights would be £10 extra a shift he said it comes out at 475 before stoppages.

Well the pickle has been averted, as the other company (not Canute) were only ringing to tell me they couldn’t take me on because I had to be 25! Bugger! Haha!

Wow, £7.46p/h for days is crap money. I was on more than that when I started driving 9 years ago and had no experience. I was 26 so had a few more options open but still…
