Being island bound for the last couple of years I’m not too sure what’s happening over on the mainland. One thing I’ve just realised is I’ve not seen Willy Betz trucks, or Hammerererer come to that, and many of the others we used see regularly on these shores.
Are they still running on the mainland and their disappearance is a sign that the UK has shut up shop or have they gone completely?
All I see now where Willy used to park is Uncle Eddy

I dont remember seeing any Hammerererer for a while now. It could be I’m not in the right places at the right time though.

Yes running Honda from Derby It’s just that at one time every layby and service area had it’s quota of yellow trucks parked up, you just don’t see them these days in the UK either parked up or running. In the past month I’ve seen one, and that was being pulled by a subbie
Have to admit hardly see any these days compared to a few years ago when it seemed every other truck was one of Betz.

i havent seen many betz trucks recently apart from at the russian borders where there seemed to be loads going in and out, and i did see a hammerer trailer being pulled by something recently, i noticed it as they seemed to of disappeared whereas you used to see loads of them about

Yes you are right, about 10 years ago you used to see Willi Betz trucks pass every ten minutes on M20 or M25 and European roads but not now! Waberers - Hungarian haulier - biggest company in European at moment and they seem keeping grow more trucks fleets. I have seen Waberers trucks park in almost every service station or rest are in Europe! I believe that W Betz felt threat by Waberers and many new hauliers from new EU members states - more competitives since on last 2004
Also Willi Betz have won the big contract for NATO & American Army Forces and they doing daily running to Afghanistan from Latvia - Riga Port dock to Afghanistan via Russia/ Belarus/ Kazakhstan / Uzbekistan. they put lots of trucks on those contract work - probably 10 truck a day or more than 10?
W Betz decided to withdraw on Germany national domestic work and focus on International transport work. 281 workers & drivers made redundancies include German & Hungarian drivers on last Christmas.
Recently I may have heard that W Betz had lost huge contract on Toyota France to Gefco who won the contract for Toyota work.
now W Betz transport are most destinations to Baltic countries & Poland that why you may see less W Betz trucks on Western European roads
also W Betz has invest new Daf trucks for Benulux Betz group - 30ish to Dutch and 6 to Belgian!

I remember Nikolaus Hammerer using Wasserbillig to do trailer changeovers about 10 years ago. Back then, they were running yellow trailers on PAF (Pfaffenhofen) plates with the usual “Left hand driver” bollox stuck on the back. (Hey, check me out! I drive to ze island already! Knobs).
Having registered as insolvent in Germany in 2009, they seem to have upped sticks and relocated to Austria and are now running red trailers on Austrian plates, pulled by Hungarian registered units.
I saw two nearly in convoy running north on the M 40 one evening this past week. As I was going south I couldn’t see where they were registered but they weren’t part of the UK fleet

The Willi Betz trucks running out of Toyota have had the name taken off the cabs. Saw a couple last week but couldnt work out what the new name on the front was. Still got Willi Betz on the trailers.

It doesnt say that on them, the writing on the front of the cab is red and not that easy to make out.
Betz jacked in the UK toyota stuff because they couldnt make it pay and the contract been taken over by a company called transfreight. They are the people who run the logistics for toyota and all the drivers and management aer moving over to them. Betz have kept the rest of europe toyota though so i guess somehow they have managed to discuss rates. As far as i know the drivers are not that too chuffed to be moving because they say Betz is ok to work for. From what i’ve been told, they are going to stop running UK trucks now but still have the office in Felixstowe to run the UK loads for the forigners to backload.

Transfreight have had the contract at Burnaston for years and subbed the work out to Betz and others.
