Wheres the £££ at?

Heya people I am young free single and morgage free! I wana save up a decent ammount of money over the next couple of years and wana know where the moneys at! I have heard event work is good away for 3/4 months at a time for a few grand a month, can anything top this? Whats the best paying job the more experinced of our members have had when they were worry free and why did you enjoy it? Thanks!

Event work pays well, or at least it used to. You could try getting on a rock and roll tour, believe that’s quite good money.

I’d say oil rigs are the place to be, if you can hack it.

Get your PSV licence, I’ve just been offered 3 YEARS of granny tours!

I spent most of the time screwing the Tour Managers…

They’re like dog ■■■, older they get, easier they are to pick up :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

Rock and roll work, contact the usual suspects, Transam, Fly by Nite, Stagetruck etc.

Exhibition work, try Watermark or David Wilson’s Trailers maybe.

Haha good work! What do you thinks reasonable if your away for say three months? Couple of grand a month?

If you can drive a a digger etc Bentleys are paying £12 an hour on the Covenham to Boston pipeline plus time and a half when it’s raining so I’m told :astonished:

at least 3grand. i know that cos i did it.

Get on the benefits, I hear its amazing. Basically you get the works for doing fiddly squat!

As far as general work goes, I left the best paid job I ever had with a watrr company. Artic vac tank on a 4days on, 4days off, 4nights on and so on Rota. Very good pay and conditions… I should never have left!

Thanks for the responses! I think my personality would suit event/concert work rather than a day job. I already get good money for the class 2 work I do but when I get my class 1 hopefully Oct time if I can find someone to give me a chance I can see that being the job for me! Tried the benifit route for 2 months and it was the dullest most depressing time of my life Id rather earn it!

Yes, I would say that if you work away on tour work for a calendar month then you would normally expect £3,000 to be paid into your bank account for that, maybe more.

It’s not for everybody. When you do tour work then you are part of a team and you have to be prepared to do anything, right down to making the tea and mopping the floor.

It’s still the best work I’ve ever done and the thing I will remember on my deathbed.

One of my best mates who is leaving his current employment was told of a driving job yesterday in the Falklands for 3 months and the salary■■? £60000 apparently! This came from a good source very close to the employer of said job. Make of it what you will!

I dont mind hard work and getting my hands dirty! Sounds like good fun aswell!
60k?! lets hope he comes back with all his body parts!

Wheres the money? Having your own business is where it is…

Thank you very much! I certianally couldnt cope with an oil rig!

I was involved with the offshore oil industry when I first left school. (shore based). Wish to hell I’d gotten on the rigs. Its a fantastic life style for a young free single guy. Don’t know what on/off shifts they do now (3 on, 3 off?) but back then it was 2 weeks on 2 off. (I used to draw up the crew change lists). So that’s 2 weeks of having no expenses at all & giving your liver a break. Many guys don’t have a house. They just go to Thailand when off with loadsa dosh to throw about.
I remember crane driver was well paid & not exactly hard work. Chef is a nice clean job but hard hot work. Roustabout damned hard work & dirty on a drilling rig. Drillers are on top dollar. Be a commercial diver for a few years & retire made at 35.

I guess the work will not generally be as hard/dirty on a production platform as a drilling rig.

Once you get into this game, you have the option to work anywhere in the world.

A friend has recently gone to Oz rigging over there, he said his job was a ‘Mud Doctor’, we reckon he was on £50k+ a year, not bad for a guy that went in on the bottom rung after leaving Burger King, his job has seen him out sourced to a few far flung places around the world and now in Oz he said he will earn at least double what he did here, and they are crying out for his line of work.
