I have a strange yearning to be tucked up in bed in my old globetrotter, in heavy rain in a Dutch sevice area. Listening to the rain battering the roof and the sound of heavy vehicles passing on the highway. Always loved to be in there or Belgie on a Sunday night.
I really miss doing roadshow and promo work, drivig anywhere in the UK or Europe I would then take a day or two to set up whatever show was on then sit back and enjoy myself with my mates. I would spend days at a time without moving my truck, we had hot and cold running water in whatever trailer we had. Sometimes we used hotels and the company paid for everything. I would find the place to park with the best views etc. We spent so many nights on the town getting drunk as skunks.
The money was brilliant by the way.
What brings the memories back even more now is the fact that a lot of the workmates on that company are now on my facebook friends list

I used to do exactly the same, and loved it. I went away on a roadshow for Xerox once and was away for 107 days, three and a half months. I would spend an average of one day a week driving, one day a week setting up and breaking down the trailer, and for the rest of the time my duties were restricted to opening up the trailer in the morning and shutting it down in the afternoon, for the rest of the time I just went sightseeing etc.
I can still remember the itinerary- Geneva, Zurich, Vienna, Budapest, Prague, Warsaw, Moscow, St Petersburg, Kiev, Bucharest, Istanbul, Belgrade.
I slept in the truck once or twice a week, otherwise four and five star hotels, was fed, watered and kept, and paid 31 days a month with 30 lots of night-out money.
I packed it up when my kids were born but now they are nearly grown I’m looking to get back on it again.

Similar to Pat and Harry, I would still like to be on this work, I did roadshows for Cessna, Gulfstream, Learjet, and IBM amongst others. Longest away was about 4 months doing Cessna and Gulfstream back to back…One ended at Paris airshow the other started there.
Used to go to lots of places away from the normal UK-Italy-UK runs.
Even got down to South Africa with the Cessna one…trailer shipped down there from UK ,I flew out and had to ride around with the local driver…Joburg-Durban-Joburg-Pretoria and back to Durban. 6 weeks in all .
Harry and Toowise.
It was a great life for single guy’s but it destroyed my marriage at the time, not that I cared because I also usually worked with 2 -4 beauties from ‘Drive and Survive’. I was doing a show in Sussex after returning from 3 weeks on another and told my then wife I would be home for a week, then my boss informed me I had to head back out to Germany with 2 others, my wife informed me she was not gonna be waiting which she didn’t
I was offered a job doing the same stuff here when I came over but it involved 9 months away and I didn’t fancy that with my new wife and daughter.
Still miss it though.

Just wondering if anybody else has itchy feet.

I remember that, parked in Hendrik Ido Ambacht watching the rats running round the service area, they were as big as Jack Russels
I’m with the motorcycles and ale crew! I suppose people will think I’m crazy, but that Holly Willoughby just doesn’t do it for me. I can see why people would fancy her, but I just can’t see it .
I’ll just settle for Keeley Hazell or Anne Hathaway
Francoise Dorleac (RIP) I think was maybe the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen though…
