Who is Betty?
Betty is the little blonde at the bottom of the MIRACLE-TREE ® website.
It shapes the appearance of WUNDER-BAUM ® since the early 60s and is a typical sign of where the Little Trees air fresheners ® has its origin: in America, was invented by a Swiss and Germany now produced in Switzerland. Betty steht für Nostalgie und Frische pur. Betty stands for pure nostalgia and freshness. Bring your rays reach us as ever.
Und nicht nur die Männer mögen sie! And not only the men they like!
Must be a clue in this somewhere, a BT/HSBC callcentre perhaps?
Hi woodlands, We’ll try for a share of the spoils now…
Invented by a Swiss [man] and produced today [lit = for Germany,] (but I’d translate it as:) ‘for the German market’ in Switzerland
So we’re guessing at the answer being: The town called Zug, in Switzerland.
Dave, is Thayngen in Zug canton?
I thought I may as well call and ask…
Dear Tony
This picture show’s the facility in Thayngen Switzerland where the WUNDER-BAUM° trees are manufactured.
WUNDER-BAUM° trees are familiar to the Magic Trees° or Little Trees° you have in UK.
Your trees in the UK are produced in the USA by the Car Freshener Corporation — Watertown — state New York.
This facility in Thayngen is producing the trees for France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the most of the Eastern European countries.
If you have more questions don’t hesitate to ask.
Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best regards

So, Mr Euromat, Dave and I and our Key Account Manager reckon it’s in Thayngen…give in :?: ?

Hi woodlands,
This one is getting to be very interesting.
I got my info from wikipedia:
WUNDER-BAUM ist eine eingetragene Schutzmarke der Firma Julius Sämann Ltd. im schweizer Zug aus der Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts.
This bit from the same source wasn’t very helpful though…
The products are made in (various) different factories and sold worldwide.
Source: Wunder-Baum – Wikipedia
Here is a cantonal map of switzerland, and it shows that Zug is the name of both the Canton and the ‘capital’ city of the Canton:
Cantons of Switzerland
Thayngen is a small town in a Canton called Schaffhausen, which is 95.1 km from Zug, so we might just be stuffed now… except…
I reckon we know what was written on the collection note and box #1 of his CMR, which would put euromat at:
Wunder-Baum
Emdwiesenstrasse 29,
8240 Thayngen,
Switzerland
As everybody knows, Emdwiesenstrasse is just off Zollstrasse.
Clicky for a piccy: “A” marks the spot.
Does anybody know what we’ve won

Hi euromat, I’m unable to attend the do I’m afraid.
The other bad news is that I’m a teetotaller, so could you please chuck something in TNUK’s good cause charity sack on my behalf ?
Good contest though mate.

Hi woodlands, Yes mate, I enjoyed that one and I’d like to thank euromat for posting it!!
I might not have become involved but for that chunk of German that you first posted…
It looked like it had suffered at the hands of ‘google translate’ or similar, so I decided to check it out.
Once I’d sorted it and disposed of the red-herring thrown my way from the German wikipedia, your “Thayngen” enquiry then tipped it further our way as it put me on the right track, so it really was a joint effort.
One thing that came of this is that we now know that the ‘magic [or miracle] tree’ (Wunder-Baum) was invented in 1951 after a milk driver had complained about the evil smell of spilled milk.
From the same German wikipedia source as my quote above:
… nachdem sich ein Milchfahrer über den üblen Geruch verschütteter Milch beklagt hatte …
