Where was I ? Solved by Giblsa

Jeez…rough surface, its either an unfinished road or somewhere remote.

I’ll take a wild stab in the dark at

James Bay Highway or the Trans-Taiga Road in Northern Canada

wild guess, a range road somewhere, possibly otterburn

It is rather remote, but it’s neither of these two

its too good quality to be Albania!!

is that the road from stanley to MPA?

It sure is, circa 1991, I believe it’s been tarmacked now. When did you go to the Falklands? I feel this was only easy for the ex-servicemen amongst us who have served there as I don’t feel many civvies will have had chance to experience the pleasure of the Stanley Road :open_mouth:

i was out there in 2003 (during our summer) and it is the coldest i have ever been in my life. as i do logistics we were working in containers that came in on the FIRS and we could only physically work for 20 minutes at a time before frost bite set in and that was with all the CW clothing you could get hold of.

the stanley road is tarmaced now and it does still get closed every couple of days due to snow!

I was there from Jan - Apr 91, during their summer. We had barbecues on the beach, (the ones that weren’t mined!!) and went out site seeing during days off, very pleasurable. Plus being able to get legless in the police club for under a fiver had it’s advantages. It was 20p for a triple vodka and coke. It was dearer to stay sober :open_mouth:

Do you know an Ali Magee, he was ther at that time, he was in a one of the armoured regiments?

No, I don’t think I nicked him.

It’s a wonder, the stories RSM Magee as told me about his time in the Falklands he should be just a bout getting parole now

He told me they used to call the islanders Bennies because of the wooly hats they wore(Crossroads), when the Brass told them to stop that, they started calling them stills.

When asked by his CO why they called them stills, he answered because they where still Bennies

I remember the bennies! In fact if your plane was delayed flying home, you were bennied, if your plane was early, you were argied!
