No it wasn’t a clue, I must of been drifting back to the 19th century, could be old age.

roders:
is it iraq

Sorry roders, its not Iraq but you could of been on the right road.
Now that was a clue.

Going to think about this overnight, that’s when I get my inspirations! It does seem vaguely familiar. But then again,a lot of water has passed under these bridges since then eh mushroomman?

Im going to guess at crossing the Schelde near St Niklaas

Sorry Wheel Nut, that shot was about 3000 kilometers out so it looks like we have ended up in a Bogey.

I am surprised that nobody has solved this, so here are a couple of clues.
This picture was taken from the north. while travelling south and the bridge is nearly 3 kilometres long. It joins two countries in friendship  and is over 30 meters above the river, which is not so blue.
Every 500 meters there were signs which said “ NO PHOTOGRAPHY ’’ . ( O.K., was there ever a driver who ran through the Commie block and obeyed all road signs ). :open_mouth: About every 800 meters there were two armed soldiers who always gave you the T.I.R. salute. ( The practice of putting two fingers up to their lips, meaning have you got a ciggy you capitalist *### driver.)
In the middle, it was a double decked steel structure with a road on the top and a railway line underneath.
The was the only bridge between these two countries and the only other way to cross, was like Bestbooties did in another thread and get on a barge.

bridge of freindship is it afganistan■■?

dreva:
bridge of freindship is it afganistan■■?

Hard luck dreva, you are 50% correct.
This bridge is known as The Friendship Bridge  but it is only one third of the way to Afghanistan.

Hi mushroom man, im going to take a guess going by your “clues”

Is the river the not so blue Danube? and, trying to get my Geography right are you crossing from Hungary into what was Yugoslavia, that would probably now be Serbia on route to Belgrade, Niss etc?

cheers, Bullitt.

Well done bullitt, your right , it is the not so Blue Danube, although they all call it The Danue or something similar in this region.
How ever its not Hungary or Yugoslavia , I am afraid you will have to roam  a little further to find this bridge.

“Roam” a little further■■?..ok, Romania into Bulgaria?

bullitt:

bullitt, you are this weeks Top Gun.   :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

The Friendship Bridge does in fact span the River Danube ( Dunav ) between GIURGIU in Romania and RUSE in Bulgaria.
I thought all the old Middle East lorry drivers would of been queuing up to answer this one, as trying to get through these two borders in the 80s often took up to 6 hours. :astonished: :astonished: :astonished:

Only 6 hrs !!!
Towards the end of Communism, it could take upto 6 days!!! both ways. The queue used to be all the way back through the town on the Rumo side and tilts were getting slashed all over the place and the thieves would run of into the shadows with the boxes. The good old days.
GS

I never took what I thought to be too long to clear this border at any time,3 to 4 hours at most.
When going into Romania, dont forget to have put in your passport any knocks or scrapes on your truck,'cause if they were seen on your exit and not recorded, you could be accused of having an accident!
