Where to sell empty pallets

occasionally we get left empty pallets on the trailer from different customers and up until recently just took them back to base but our wearhouse manager has said for us not to bring them back so just after a list of places that are on main routes that would buy them, eg- Keele services M6 and toddington M1

i think theres still the guy in exeter services

Years ago…

I got lost and did a U turn in a pallet yard just off the M6/A5 junction in Vicarage lane. I don’t why but as I turned, all the pallets I had on the back fell off. Amazingly, there was a nice bloke right there, who offered me some money for them, cleared them all up and stacked them neatly with some other pallets which must have fallen off other drivers lorries who’d also done a U turn.

That company may have moved to here

There’s a member on here who specialises on this, it’s his main source of income ffs
But I ain’t going to disclose who it is, if he wants to help you, it s up to him.

But if I know him he’ll want a finders fee and a cut. :

you’ve answered your own question

The travellers site just off J16 M4 may or may not buy them. Used to a while back (apparently)

Theres a guy just off the A2 near Bean. Used him a few times.

I was asking for more places around the country that are like the two examples I gave as that’s what eg- stands for but hey ho thanks for your time and input

think the obvious answer is to google “PALLETS WANTED” in any given area and i,m sure you will find a list to choose from

Donnington services. I asked here once they offered me 50p a pallet for chep ones.

either you’ve a tiny yard or your warehouse manager must be on a decent salary, if it was me id encourage you to bring them back lol, stack them up then sell them to a local pallet company when I’ve got a decent amount saved up. most pallet lads would collect them from you, take away all the rubbish ones too

Just think of how different that story would have ended if the “nice bloke” was a copper in a police yard… :stuck_out_tongue:
(He takes them all off your hands for nowt, in exchange for waiving the fine for having an insecure load…)

Seriously though, there are pallet buyers all over the place if you know the private yards that are regular buyers of them… They might not be buying every week, but they should be the first place to check out every once in a while when you decide you’ve got some to get rid of…

Don’t try and palm them off with rubbish though, if half the load (not visible at first, buried beneath) are knackered, they’ll expect a deep discount for “taking the knackered ones off you” - seeing as you cannot very well have them forked back onto the flatbed in a falling-apart state - can you? :bulb: You might end up with say, 20 good pallets, 20 crap ones, base offer £5 per decent pallet, and the guy offers you £50 for the lot, which ends up being free firewood for his small holding stove, so at least nothing gets wasted I guess…

40 years ago, lol, there was a pallet yard on A13 that bought Chep pallets. :open_mouth: Yard closed and overnight all the blue ones were dipped and cleaned and the yard would open, as usual, the following morning. Eventually Chep found out and had the yard closed. :imp:  Them was the good old days

Back in the 80’s we used to load pallets out of Huntingdon for ICI Wilton. We used to get to Wilton, unrope the pallets, drop the trailer and pick an empty up purely in order to save time.

A mate and I turned up there one day and I took all my ropes off and dropped my trailer, my mate had dropped his trailer but left it roped up, I asked him if he was gonna take his ropes off and he said “no point, I’m coming back in for it later tonight, I’ve already got a buyer lined up”.
