Pass test, get licence, knock on doors , get job,any class 1 or 2 job,agency,temp,full time anything to get you started. Now your foot is in the door, it wont take long to find out the better paying jobs in your area or you will find out kind of work you want to do. Don’t think about running before you can walk. Like I said,you will find out more once you are actually driving in the industry. PS in 99% of tramping jobs you will earn more doin uk work than euro but there are exceptions.Your domestic situation will play a major part of what type of work you do ie wife,kids etc. Sleeping in a nice shiny blinged up cab is not all its cracked up to be. Once you have a year or two under your belt you can be a bit more choosier about things but up until then its take what you can get.Some drivers still enjoy what they do, other only do it because it keeps a roof over their familys head.

I live in bucksi had a call from an agency the other day wanting to send me to Bidvest in Bicester, 3 months temp to perm then 35K salary which would clear your 2k a month take home target. I reckon they would definately take new passes there, plus maybe not too far for you?

Honestly, no. It was one of two, but i only know the name of one. I’ll PM you the phone numbers and you can ask them. Or sod the agencies and just call up the offices and ask if you can speak to somebody. Bidvests have a yard in Bicester and a yard in Wooburn. Never worked for them myself, but am sure they’ll take new passes. Probably very early starts and big hours, might be job and knock or might be basic hours + O/T.

I just wanted to say a quick thanks to everyone who has replied. No job is perfect and it’s always the job your doing that seems the worst !
I thought that until January this year when I lost my job with a 6 month old baby to look after. My life has been turned upside down and I would give anything just to go back to that job but it’s not going to happen so here I am trying to find way to feed and house my family.
I am currently sat in a CPC class which through no fault of the trainer is boring as f**k.
I take my Class 2 the week starting 27th July and my Class 1 sometime after that. Then it’s out to find some work hopefully that pays me enough to pay the mortgage.
That’s my story and that’s why I am here. It’s also why I am trying to get as much information on this life as possible because right now I know sweet FA !

First of all you need to get a few years under you’re belt to see what suits you and you’re lifestyle.You will inevitably pick up the crap that people like me wouldn’t touch, and this will probably mean agencies, my own personal viewpoint is that for profit transport is to be avoided like the Black Death (shiny lorry many lights crap pay worked to death retire into poverty if you live to see it), unionised own account work such as supermarkets is the way forward, proper pay, with all the benefits sick pay, free shares ,staf disco
how can you say that when supermarket work all early starts and very late starts tramping all day long more time off as well
bidvest will take you direct as a new pass most site have signs outside their door, expect manual work lots of hours but for class 2 a decent wage.
