As per the title. Can’t find a manager these days that isn’t a pen pushing, snivelling, two faced ■■■■■■■■ that always blames something or someone else for their gross incompetence and downright stupidity!
All well read/keyboard warriors but that know bugger all about the jobs they want us to do!
I really do despair at the quality of managers in this game. Rant off!
I have noticed this too,it is getting worse, when at loading or unloading points, all the toilet doors have memos to tell the staff how to behave in the toilets, warnings of gross misconduct if they find out who does this and does that in the loo.Told how to clean the pan and leave it clean for the next user, with a snotty note printed out on their computer.
They will always blame the driver.
They will always ask where you are, when they have a tracker 6 inches in front of their nose, but too lazy to use it.
They will say the normal driver can do the job in such a time and you have taken longer, so where have you been.
You have wasted their diesel getting lost.
If you have a power nap, but had a legal tacho break before, the phone will go and say why have you stopped, you just had a break.
The reply to that is, do you want me to fall asleep at the wheel, writting off the truck and the load, loss of a contract and jobs, selling some trucks, because i fell asleep at the wheel.
The factory or depot will still be standing there if you are ten minutes late.
The lines they use are," what took you so long, where have you been,"
Empty your truck when you get back, job gone.
Push on a bit then, are you asking me to break the law,no, i said the customer is waiting to go home, and you must be there by 16.15.
Can i have in writting what you have just told me to do, err, err ok, then, just do your best, ring half an hour away to update me.LOL.
Because everyone wants a graduate now.
It dosen’t matter if you’ve held a license and done the job it’s your abillity to use word like granularity and be able to produce graphs and spreadsheets.
The fact that you’ve pulled the cages off or backed into that customer that’s a bit tight and needs a blind side reverse counts for nowt if you can produce a nice graph with red and blue lines showing organic growth.
Same as the DCPC, ■■■■■■■■ in shirts and ties telling lads who’ve done the job for 30 years the best way in their opinion how to do it.

A fair point but I have encountered no end of junior/middle managers, particularly in warehouses/RDCs, who have worked their way up from picking or driving an FLT who are the most incompetent, incapable, two-faced brown-nosers you could ever imagine.
The saddest thing is that they don’t realise it. Instead they genuinely do sit there thinking how great a job they’re doing.
some have done the driving side of job and if they were allowed they would make excellant managers but its the crap from above that stops them, and these are the usual graduate types!!
guy in my transport dept as no driving experience and does not come from the area so as o clue to where places are or the times it takes, as most of my deliveries are on york moors, and farms ect what looks like on a map/streetview ect to be a quick route is,nt.

Go to Dawn Foods at Cardington and walk into the staff toilets. I dare you to put your backside on the seat. I dare you to touch the door handle as well.
The place is staffed by people who come from countries where a toilet is typically a hole in the ground they squat over. The state they leave the toilets in is truly horrific.

Given the rubbish posted on this forum by people about basic drivers hours rules it seems there are plenty of drivers who need someone in a shirt and tie to tell them how to do their job.

Well if you can get the man at the very top to employ a broken down old git of a driver with a dodgy ticker who has a couple of million K’s under his belt to do the job I am your man !
Roping and sheeting since a kid, tanker experience and ran our truck for decades. I can plan a route and load a truck to suit the route, as well as making myself understood in Spanish and French.
But I have been known to tell a client as well as driver to [zb] off and have no time for idiots or ■■■■ idle layby lovers, diplomacy is not my strong point !
You would love me or hate me in ten minutes but know where you stand, as I believe in a fair days wage for a fair days work !!

When I see posts like this I wish we had a “like” button as facebook does.
Bob Garnett is the best manager. He was with British International then Euro Psl then had his own firm Garnett Eurotrans doing the Iberian Peninsula and Portugal. His Dad was a Customs officer.
Get on well with all of mine, half of them have never done the job.
As a general rule the incompetence and general uselessness is committed by drivers who seen completely unable to perform the simplest tasks without wrecking something,
some of the planks that do the job very often need to be put straight, agreed some managers at some of the places I have worked have been totally unsuited to the role, those who tend to moan about management seem to be either lazy or inept or both.
