Where have all the good drivers gone

it was ok doing all those collections and hanging around italy for days back in the pre customs days.
there was always someone around to go get the dinner with and a little bit of vine maybe.
now theres very few english/irish drivers out there.
if you want company, you would need to learn polish or latvian.
italy has changed for me because of this.
the job iotself hasnot changed except theres no waiting around for customs anymore.
when i loaded there last thur, the guy in the office in como said i picked a good day top get finished.
friday is still the same as ever.
midnight plus getting loaded.
off to germany tomorrow sat.
got to be near hamburg for early mon.
i would normally go on sun morning early, but with this damned digi card theres nothing left in the way of losing a little bit of driving time here and there.
got to be done to the letter of the law now.

To top it all, gave a driver 5 deliveries in an artic for Monday, Mortlake, Battersea, Hemmel, Edmonton & Park Royal reload Park Royal back to Newbury and he just phoned me to say it is to muck and he jacked, so who has to cancel my day in office and do the job, ME.

Five deliveries■■? With a tanker■■?!!!

I don’t think so! No wonder he jacked.

Read my apiary diary :stuck_out_tongue:

5 Deliveries with a tanker.

Thought it was obvious that 5 deliveries would be on any thing but a tanker.

He had a curtainsider, he was the typical usless, lazy w****r that I was on about, moaned constantly about the job, wouldnt have a night out, just wanted to load up in the morning, deliver, reload and back home, if it took 5 to 6 hours to do that and he was back in yard at say 1300, I would send him to do a local run, take maybe 2 hours, he would then moan to my customers about what he had done, customers would call me, dont need it, never complained to me the 6 months he worked for me.

When intervewed he never mentioned his fobia of nights out, infact said they were no problem, but liked to be home Friday night, not a problem as he wasnt on the tanker work.

Had a DAF XF Super Space Cab, if you got in his cab to move it, you would think it had just been picked up from hire company, no personal gear in cab, no sleeping bag, wash gear, furry dice, nothing, in 6 months, should have know he would be a walker.

good reply alan… should have sacked him.

welcome back alan.
as for multi drop.
it is possible in a tanker.
i did it years ago with a 4 pot tanker.
putting lub oil in one, antifreeze in another and so and so.
nevr judge the book by its cover.

The answers you had there alan speak for themselves that takes us back to where you started WHERE ARE ALL THE GOOD DRIVERS obviously not on here When they put up stupid posts like who does 5 drops with a tanker.

We may be recruiting, we run food tankers to Belgium, Holland, France & Germany.

We pay £90 a day Monday to Friday plus £25 night out over the water £20 uk.
We also pay £12 per hour Saturday & £16 per hour Sunday and bank holiday’s.

PM me if you may be interested, we are based in Newbury, run DAF 95 Super Space Cabs, Magnums

you posted the wage details see above,i did not get them in a p.m

I smell a lot of bull manure on this thread :stuck_out_tongue:

IT is not uncommon to do
more than one drop with
a tanker,depending on
what you are carrying
i used to deliver to4-7
customers, when doing
gas tankers, delivering
oxygen, nitrogen,argon,
etc to various customers
we also had a wagon and drag
food tanker that had a total of
7 pots and did do multi drops
by our small customers,
i also have seen motor oil
being delivered by tanker
and the driver said he could
have any thing from 1–25
customers to deliver to,
so multi drops are possible and do
see happen,

i was at the same, loading in shell ellesmere port.
we used to load different grades of lub oil into a multi pot tanker.
this is the experienced men speaking out now.
i am in germany right now as i type,in lichtendorf services on the A1 south of dortmund.
i brought the laptop along with my three phone dongle and just tried it this evening and hey presto.
internet in the truck.
my missus reckons she will never see me again now. i have internet in the truck.
i am sorrounded by russians in the parking area.
im might join the communist party tonite.

Greg

Just a word of advice, You mobile internet connection can be costly esp abroad! My m8 got a mega bill in for charges when using his abroad! They charge you on number of MBs (Megabytes) used just in case you didnt know

Yes, it’s a killer, mobile data roaming. Better park near some free unlocked wi-fi

Sorry Alan, I thought you only ran tankers. It wasn’t the possibilities of doing multi-drop tanker work I was questioning; but anyone who has done tanker work knows it will take one hour to tip any amount of product from weigh-in, sample, connect, discharge, pack-up, weigh-out . Then you may have to wait for point to be clear.

So five drops + washout then re-load would appear at bit unrealistic.

Have you done it?? I said "I don’t think so  " NOT;- Who does 5 drops?. I did six years on tanks and most drops ever was three, with a six pot tank several different products to same customer.

You have to carry a hose for every product if the customer has no facilities for washing hose. Five products means you would be washing five hoses at tank wash. (oil is not that bad as you can use the same hose for all grades as long as you’ve drained it.)

If you’re tipping from one pot and multi-dropping you will not be emptying tank if you have no means of ‘blowing’ the line you have a hose full of product. After 5 drops It all gets a bit messy and you need plenty of buckets.

Also, you only have one pump you need to clean that also.

I can tanker as good as the next man. Except when I was on lift tanks and left my connector for the air-line in the well on top of the tank.
Next tank delivery; - oil to shell Ellesmere no pump on truck and no connector to blow load off. (ZB). Luckily my mate was tipping down the road, rang him and he loaned me his.

Multi-drop with a 44 foot curtainsider is a crap job.

Multi-drop with a tanker is worse. and I don’t think so  Not for me.

bye,bye

hey you never know, so do you work there lol

I held my peace for around a month, giving Alan the chance to get back, get straight and sort his own personal priorities, but not to at least open and acknowledge 40 PMs which have been specifically requested is simply - bad manners.

OMG!! cant believe this, the guy is trying to run a 22 truck business, he gets let down and has a “rant” about it.

A few have said goodluck and the rest of you have had a pop at him for…“not getting the job” Makes me laugh when some drivers put their life on hold when they apply for a job they might not get.

Give the guy a break, he did say he was going away, and he done his best considering the circumstances. Why be SO disappointed because he didn’t PM you.

I know good manners cost naff all, but he is trying to run a business AND keep his customers happy whilst a joke of a driver is trying to upset them.

All he asked for was a driver that didn’t have a life outside trucks!

Rant over!

Too many PM’s to respond to individually could easily have been covered with a short follow up here along the lines of:
“thanks very much for all your PM’s & interest, the vacancy has now been filled”.
