I was thinking,if we need 100000 drivers, and whatever percentage are going to be on nights out, where are they going to park overnight when the truckstops and msas are already full, where would all these extra lorries go?
We could import some Restaurants Routier from Europe?
Or go for the cheap option and import some stinky lay-bys?
Never mind parking. Where are the 100,000 trucks waiting for drivers? And imagine the traffic levels
Rather than spending billions on HS2, the money would be better spent on a national network of secure truck stops with motels/showers/hot food, etc.

That doesn’t make the right people better off though.

They should just reduce the length of trailers and increase the length of tractor units so that they contain toilets, showers, a proper cooking area, electrical hook-up etc and then just provide sufficient proper parking areas for them.

It would be nice but if only I could push my seat back a bit more,Id be happy, like in a motorhome with a swivel seat and keep the bed in the top.

There are not 100.000 trucks waiting for drivers. The RHA wants an extra 100.000 drivers looking for work, so that their handlers have a willing and desperate (and cheap) work force waiting outside the gates.
THERE IS NO DRIVER SHORTAGE. THERE IS A DECENT DRIVING JOB SHORTAGE.

With you on that Harry. It wouldn’t be difficult for the manufacturers to do, if they were confident of selling in sufficient numbers. Making trailers shorter might not be too popular though, but if they remained at 13.5m and had at least one positively steered axle, I reckon that would tidy up most of the manoeuverability issues.
