When was the last time you was stopped by dvsa/vosa?

Got stopped in 1986 for the first time ever on the A2 coming out of Dover, empty drawbar apart from two empty blue pallets inside the front of the front body, told the guy its empty and is it worth weighing, he said we will run it over and to my surprise I was 200kgs over on the front axle, told me to move the two empty pallets back & let the owner know, I did but was told not to load so close to the front in future. still amuses me now, how someone can speak without thinking.

?

Two empty Chep blue pallets tip the scales at 60-70kg total. If simply putting them at the front of an otherwise empty vehicle puts it 200kg overweight on the front axle, surely it would still be 130kg overweight on that axle when completely empty? Or have I misunderstood?

You have not misunderstood at all, But the transport manager did.

It was a 301 Seddon Atkinson with the most ridiculous over engineered bumper & tow hitch on the front.

They didn’t look at my tacho but a had a real going over my trailer. Had a slight issue with tread depth on one tyre, asked when I expected to get back to base (East Mids) and gave a delayed PG9 of 24 hours to get tyre sorted.
They were sound blokes just doing their job.

Surely a tyre is either legal or illegal, how could they let you drive away with with a defective tyre & a PG9?
