When to go for ADR

Is there any point in newbie going for the ADR or should I gain couple of years driving experience first?

Quite a few questions to ask yourself.

Have you got or looking a full-time job or are you looking to doing agency ?
Would employer put you through
If looking for agency work … are local agencies advertising for ADR trained drivers … phone ask them
Unfortunately not always more money for ADR
Are there firms in your area who do ADR work … either tanks or packages … you may struggle to get tank work as a newbie … unless poss. on domestic oil / gas deliveries.

If you are doing it yourself … can you afford it … remember, if you do ADR Tanks & Packages it is a full week course ( not difficult to get your head around ) … BUT … will qualify you for DCPC hours … make sure you check the provider is JAUPT approved & how many hours you will get.

This is not just a YES / NO question … there is quite a lot of things to consider . Hope this helps

Depends where you live as to how much ADR work is in your area & if you would like to work in that area

Thanks guys. Do they hire new drivers though?

Once I have passed my class 1, the company my dad works for has said they’ll take me on and put me through my ADR, just a case of getting the class 1 training and test out of the way with!

ADR is an excellent additional qualification in many geographical areas. If you want specific advice about it, contact Diesel Dave on this forum. He is the ADR guru.
