As somebody said it is YOU that decides not your boss, if he insists that you do run after you have informed him that you think it is too dangerous, ask him to text you to do it and to make a reference on the text that you have informed him it is too dangerous, so you have an element of proof when it goes ■■■■ up, and watch him back pedal on his opinion.
A mate of mine blew over a few years ago, drivers side down. He felt reliveved he got
through it unharmed, …then the contents of his freshly boiled kettle poured over him

Put your gear in your bag, zip it up, phone and wallet in your pocket
When your motor decides it wants a lie down your not scrambling the carriageway on yer hip n elbow trying to get your gear together

I did that last Christmas, it was so bad on the M62 i put my phone, wallet and everything personal in my bag and zipped it up i was that convinced it was going over, 5 mins later i thought ■■■■ this what am i doing and pulled into Hartshead Moor for 2 hrs
Seriously thou when you start to think is this safe look at other’s to just see what are they doing.
And do like wise.
Also known as if in doubt…don’t!
Blew over years ago on the M5 near Taunton. Tall curtain sider empty and down to 20 MPH. Drove passed a gap in the bank - and over she went onto the passenger side. Much like the kettle story, there I was lying with my back on the passenger window thinking “■■■■! That was lucky!” then having my fullface crash helmet bounce off my forehead!
Wind becomes a journey stopper when you decide it’s not safe - I was trying to be a hero - never again
You’ll know its a journey stopper when you feel unsafe to drive in it.
Regards to driving with the curtains open. Many do it without any issues. Strapping the roof down helps.
Better to consult your company though to see what their policy is regarding driving in extreme wind.
Alcpone:
Last company I worked for wouldn’t allow us to tie curtains back even if I wanted to, which I wouldn’t. Insurance purposes apparently.
I pulled 15’ 11’ tauts post of the time and never once got blown out of the lane I was in, just slow it down and be prepared to have a lie down if worse comes to worse or just pull over and have a kip
How can you sleep?
If I try parking in one of those “close” laybys, everything going past at 50+ shakes the damned thing sideways enough to render my lucozade unopenable…
toby1234abc:
Pull the side curtains to the rear of the trailer and open the doors on the trailer.
With ratchet straps secure the sheet of the trailer and secure the rear doors.
Do not do this. If its really windy there’s a chance of ripping the roof off.
Wind becomes a journey stopper when YOU decide it is too strong.
in 25yrs ive never ever seen a roof come off yet
curtains back, fold rear doors on to curtains then ractet them together, then if you have internal straps attach them to the floor as if you a using them to hold you pallets all the way to the back,

put trailer legs down, pull pin and move the unit so its not touching the trailer

I’ve never seen it happen, but was driving down the A66 few years back when I seen a curtainsider with the roof blown off , was
Strapped down lol I wonderd what it was at first only realised when i got closer that it was the roof
it might, just might be possible if the rear doors are shut but id have to see it to believe it, but if the doors are opened onto the curtains then there is no way the roof can blower off, unless its a crap trailer
I think we will put this one down to a crap trailer
i would say there was an under lying problem there , looking at the near side of the trailer looks like its been leaking which tells you the roof is loose leaking even more now
i think thats half the problem with roofs coming off, its not that running with the curtains open rips them off its more likely that theres a loose bit which the wind gets under so if the winds that strong it would probably have come loose even with the curtains closed
run in the bad winds many a time with curtains pulled back and back doors open never had a problem , always put 3 ratchet straps over the roof , just told the gaffer that it wld cost a lot less for a roof than getting recovered and a possible badly injuired driver or worse , driver got killed when his artic got blown over a mile from our yard in the last bad weather
I tell drivers not have loose items in the cab in case it turns over.
You could survive the roll over but get killed by
your tool box or bottle jack.
In Europe, some of us took all the kit to change your own tyres to save money on call outs.

How do know that? Are you a trailer designer or an aerodynamicist ? There must be all sorts of different aerodynamic forces acting on the roof with curtains and doors opened compared to it being closed up. I doubt if any trailers are designed to be used in that way.
