What's your company dog/spare truck?

As my truck is in for a taco calibration and 6 weekly check I’ve got the company spare truck
It’s the same age and lower mileage than mine but the heater is shot and the engine takes 10-20 seconds to start due to bad compression but it’s days are numbered other wise it’s not to bad to drive
P/s both trucks are MAN TGM 18t 2008 auto sleeper
What’s your company dog spare truck ?

Volvo FM9 300 6x4 manual.

But it’s only Euro3, so it’s no good to me, so I get my old Scania R420 8x2 - shame

12 plate DAF CF 440. Its actually not got much more mileage on now than the 18 month old CF Euro 6s which are double shifted. Basic model and only pain in the arse is that one of the controls on the radio doesn’t work and some pillock altered the speaker balance with the knacked control so its left channel only.

We aint got one, 6 trucks 6 drivers that’s it, we do have a new truck being built, rumour has it mine is going as the spare, but I don’t want the new one…

Same here my truck is the sister to the dog but is better and I don’t want a new shiny truck I have to watch for every ding and dent

The drivers door speaker could just have blown. Was a regular fault on some of Wiseman’s old used & abused CFs I used to drive, the constant slamming of the door seemed to break the speaker over time.

Company (cowboy outfit) I worked for ages ago had a spare truck in the form of a 52 plate Iveco Eurocargo rigid. I was off the road for 18 months at one point so had green mildew over it, rusty, the radio didn’t work, no heater, suspicious stains all over the upholstery, cab was filthy, it fell out of gear when you went over a bump, needed jump starting every morning, the box at the back leaked water for fun. In the end the clutch went and the mechanic said it’s not worth spending anymore on it.

We have 2 spares at the mo, A 11 Plate Scania Highline and a 61 Plate Mercedes Actros.

You must be due a new one soon? Isn’t yours the same age as the company nails?

More than happy with this old bus lol :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

we don’t have one…the ‘afternoon’ drivers grab the earliest arriving back in the yard…best to hang around a bit so you’re not first back

2003 Scania and a few 2004 Volvo’s and DAF’s. My current upgrade is a 2008 Volvo on 995,000km’s. We do have a few 2013-2016 units but I’m a little down the ladder still

I suppose if we are really desperate the smokey 1987 Scania comes out.

When I worked for Morgans Meat Transport in Brisbane, they were all f88888g spare dogs.

They would be considered front - line motors at our place.
Our spare motor is a W reg scania. :open_mouth:
And it romps on a bit too

I hate this attitude when I encounter it from other drivers. You shouldn’t have to watch for every ding and dent, you should be trying not to put them there anyway! And if you do, be a man and tell the boss :unamused:

Although I kinda agree with ya it depends on the work that’s been undertaken. We have to take our trucks into the dodgiest tightest housing estates, into the middle of the countryside and everywhere in between, joys of working for car insurance companies.

I think the poster was referring to small marks, like if a tree/hedge runs down the side of my cab, can’t be avoided I’ve gotta be there, but I don’t think he’s referring to playing dodgems with his truck [emoji106]

I agree though, when I had a new truck people noticed everything from a stone chip, tree branch scratch or a dent in the wing from a loading shovel. Then you had the tank polishers with older motors crying because I had the new one but didn’t spend hardly any time cleaning it.
