Whats ya drivers seat like?

Mines like sitting on a paving slab for 6 or so hours :imp:
At the end of my shift i feel like ive just got off a dam mule.
Ive driven G reg ERF’s and Fodens that were more comfortable than this dam Hitlers revenge thing! Even my ole mans Bedford TL drivers seat was better!
Any suggestions (sensible ones  ) on what i can put on the ■■■■■■■ thing to make it feel less like a concrete block?

A cushion is an option but not really any good, is it a problem with the seat or with the trucks in general?

For a while my spot had an LDV Convoy van, Transit running gear but everything else made themselves. We came to conclusion they spent all the money on the drivetrain then borrowed the rest as the van itself wasn’t a patch on the MK5 Transit (which we ran alongside it). The seat felt like a flat block and had your ■■■ numb after two hours!

Even worse, one night going round a roundabout, it pulled the two mounts on the outside out of the floor, so every time you took a right hand bend you had to rest against the passenger seat or you went over sideways, still in the chair!

Takes me all my effort to sit up right and not fall off the left side of the seat, it leans that far to the left and then the padding has gone too.

Love having a weekend off, but only just get back to sitting straight before going back to work

I had the Daf seat in my Alpha modified as I just couldn’t get comfortable. The seat in my Cat shovel is fantastic. I’ve cancelled 2 chiropractors appointments since driving it.
Agree with the post about G reg Fodens; Bostron seats in our F and G regs were the best I’ve ever driven in a lorry.

We’ve got Volvo FH, Scania 4 Series & Iveco Stralis, I drive the latter in 2006 guise & it’s as comfortable as anything I’ve ever sat in.

Ross.

Volvo seats are like sitting on Giants Causeway

Actros seats have always been a bit too hard, but the one in my Axor is great. Three variable lumbar supports, adjustment in almost every direction, heated and well padded. HOWEVER - it is too bloody high and too soddin’ close to the steering wheel. It gives me chronic back ache

As someone who has been injured by a bad drivers seat, this is my advice.
Make sure you note it on the defect sheet every time you drive it, and keep copies. If you can, video the seat with an audio commetry.
There are only 2 PG9’s with drivers seats= seat cannot be adjusted, seat loose on it’s mountings.
If the seat is worn out/cushion collapsed, most companies don’t give 2 sh*ts.
However, a proper comfortable drivers seat is covered by PUWER regulations(provision of work equipment).
The company also has a duty of care for your health and safety, and you, as a driver also have a responsibility for your own health and saftey, and, you can refuse to drive a vehcile, if you feel the seat will cause injury.

I never had any problems with my back, and then my company(i’m a bus driver) put about 5 buses on my route that were due for refurbishment and the seats had all collapsed. As you can imagine, a bus drivers seat has someone sitting in it for nearly 24 hrs a day, so they get worn out very quickly(about 18 months) but my company does not replace seats until the bus is due for refurbishment, typically when the bus is 5-7 yrs old, so you can imagine the state of the drivers seats!

The whole thing has been a nightmare, ive had loads of time off work and spent about £400 with an osteopath, however, my back is still not right and plays up all the time, I am in the process of taking legal action.

Ive sat in comfier bucket seats with full harnesses than some seats in a truck, my daf ones alright though its not got the dreaded twist yet that some ive driven where th ebacks of the seat is twisted.

Been mentioned before on here, but the CF seat seems to push you forward with the upper part with no support for the middle. That large block on the floor for the engine brake is a bad design, made me sit on a bit of a skew.

My mob has got 4 MAN TGX’s on hire right now, and while I hate driving them, they have got one of the best seats fitted to any truck on the market right now. Very comfortable indeed. Tempted to nick one and fit it to my Premium!

Best seat has to be that in the daf xf. Worst is the no air sprung ones in the lf cabs. Absolutely horrendous back pain after a 13/14 hour stint in a 7.5t lf cab.

Hey Gembo, are you sure its not because you have a big wobbly Cornish ■■■ my friend     Sorry mate couldn’t resist that one

Starting to get used to the seat in my scania but its not great, the best seat is an MAN one by far!

Scania seats look good but don’t work when you actually sit on them. Daf’s OK ish, Mercs the same. Renault’s poorish…MANS reasonable.

Best seat is the one I don’t have to sit in for too long!!!

MAN have been my favoured seats since DAF stopped building the 3300

Personally im not entirely sure that it is always the seat that is at fault - unless of course its broken or worn out in some way. pretty much most seats fitted in trucks are made by the same few companies, Isri of course being a major player. The big difference betweebn different trucks is the fabric colour used to cover the seat and most importantly the driving position itself. I used to drive a Scania with an isri seat and it caused me no end of back problems - now I drive a Stralis with an Isri seat and it is very comfortable. The only thing I can reccomend is what my back specialist told me that you look very hard at how you have the seat and driving position set up, this is very likely to resolve the problem.

No way mate, im a mere 13 stone skinny arsed git
Looks like im just gona have to put up with this crap seat in this merc. I went out yesterday to deliver a cabin and then it was back to the garage for 2 days for MOT prep. So…driving it for just a couple of hours is no problem but when you get into 5, 6 or 7 , it a bloody killer on my back side and my back.
Its 5 year old now, bout time i had a new one me thinks!
I cant ever remember the old motors with seats like this one thats for sure!
I need a piece of memory foam or summin.

Hombre’s right about taking the time to set the seat correctly, but in a Daf CF this makes driving the poxy thing more difficult. In my experience this meant the sun shining under the visors, over reaching when changing gear and having the steering wheel in an awkward position (I prefer the old style not pulled down like a car so the column bashes your knees.)
