I can’t decide if I should go with a Scania R420 6x2 or a R580 6x2 for my first self owned truck ■■?
580 obviously
if your asking that question and just starting out, then this one might just be a winner? wonderlandmodels.com/produc … -topclass/
I’d go scania R790 7x3 topline mega space actros globe trotter. With a pelmet.
Always better to have power to spare, than find you don’t have enough.

580 obviously
Do you have any rough idea how much the insurance would be and the fuel economy
More horses more hay.

And 70 spot lights
Sounds like you need to sit down and do a proper business plan, you’ll have to do it anyway if you’re looking for finance.

It sounds like you still got a lot more homework to do before signing on that dotted line.
I would recommend an ERF twin splitter with a plastic pod for a cab, fibre glass as an optional extra.
Peek a boo, don’t look at me Tassled curtains.

don’t forget that airfix glue isn’t as cheap as it used to be…
What do you pull, where and what’s the load weight on average ?
And London ■■?
If you need to ask you are in the wrong game ! Being an OD is not what it was 30 yrs ago, forget it would be the most sensible answer .
Your Business plan and stash of cash will dictate if you are really Brave.
That covers it I reckon .
Raleigh Grifter. Probably more realistic tbh.
Is it a bad idea to start out on my own though with some of these posts haha
Ok Conor mate I’ll bite! Firstly, what hgv driving experience do you have? Have you drawn up any kind of business plan with regards to costs such as fuel, servicing, insurance etc? Do you have an idea of the type of haulage work you aim to be involved in? Have you approached any potential customers and sounded them out yet? There are a myriad of things I’ve not even listed that need to be carefully considered before lashing out on the blingiest (is that even a word?) Scania you can lay your hands on.
Trust me, the owner driver road is littered with the wreckage of many many very switched on guys life savings! There are some successful OD’s on this site, but I imagine they do their homework VERY carefully before jumping into anything.

Crazy…beyond belief.
As any old git like me , in the eighties you could make money with a truck. Now it’s a logistics business run by suits with degrees and huge amounts of Finance. It’s only old Dinosaurs with loyal aged customers that survive as independents because subbing work just means you get someone else’s crap and wait for the money .
If I had enough money now to get into Haulage I am ■■■■ sure I would buy cheap houses instead and rent them out as they grow in value and make you a return and generally don’t take for ( Zb) ing ever to pay you less than the invoice amount.

+1
Also worth bearing in mind is the old adage that the only way to make a small fortune in haulage is to start out with a large one!
You need to have a number plate made up with your nickname on it.
Wedge it at the base of your windscreen just behind your instrument binnacle for ultimate bell-end status…
