whats this

it looks to me to be a MACK from a italian transport company though■■?

A NICE PICTURE

Well it’s either a Saurer or a Berna.

Berna were bought by Saurer. I think the Bulldog mascot on the bonnet is a red-herring.

I would say it was a Mack looking at the badge.

Wonder why it is right hand drive though?

i dont know what the make of it is, but i do know its a smart looking old motor!

Whatever it is it isn’t a Mack, that Bulldog is there for the same reason that
some Magnum drivers put MACK on the grill, whatever the engine -
posing :unamused: .

Looking at the badge, it could be a Fiat.

Right hand drive was common in Italy right up to the 60s at least, especially in
the mountainous areas so drivers could drive close to the edge of the drop
without going over :open_mouth: . A hell of a lot of those old 50s round-fronted Fiat 8
leggers and drags that crawled over the passes were right hookers, which is
why all the autostradas had right hand toll booths as well as left. Very handy in
a British truck, saved struggling across the cab or climbing out and taking a
walk.

That BG plate could be Bergamo, which is close to Milan and would bear out
my mountain right ■■■■■■ theory :sunglasses: .

Only thing that puzzles me is that Spanish style trailer-triangle over the cab.
Did the Eyeties have those too before they started painting white diagonals on
the bumpers?

Is it a FIAT badge, or perhaps Lancia?

Hi from Genoa (Italy), The lorry is a beautiful Lancia Esatau 122, built in Bolzano since the '52 until '57.
Motor 8,8 l output 132 Hp/2000 rpm.
A great truck for the time.

Hi to all on this forum, the drawbar ran on middle east since '88 (i know a men that put the photo on the net), unfortunately was thrashed at the end of its life. It has a lot of mod, including the engine that was the common 8210 6 cylinder, 13798 cc, 260 hp (the same, with turbo and intercooler, on the Eurostar 420 rated at 420 hp ).
Bye.
Sorry for my english

thanks for the extra information its sounds like it was a great truck and used for the middle east  .also your english is very good

Welcome and thanks Giemmegi for that interesting information. I copied it and
blew it up to zoom in on that badge and, although I couldn’t read it, had
wondered about Lancia but 240 and you beat me to it.
What about the yellow triangle above the cab, was that obligatory in Italy at the
time and does it signify a trailer? Also was I right about the registration -
Bergamo?
Nice looking truck and, as Mal says, it’s looks belie its status.

Salut, David.
