I was headed towards Crewe on A534 yesterday, 24th Jan and saw at least 20-30 Polish registered curtain side 3.5t vans either heading in or out of Crewe or parked up.
Just curious as to whats going on there!
I saw a few parked up in a layby near Fords & Landrover/Jaguar-Halewood, last week, perhaps they’re something to do with express car parts to the continent.
They seem to do loads of car parts in these little trucks … think they get away with the truck bans in Europe.
See a few around my way going to / from Treves … do car interior carpet.
Around Crewe … could be going to Bentley … there is a place on Crewe Ind Estate that is warehouse for Bentley.
I was delivering to a Bentley warehouse on Winsford industrial estate a couple of days ago, there where two of these parked outside.
The place was full of engines and wheels/tyres.

Doh … that’s the place I meant at Winsford not Crewe
I would imagine its a way to get around the EU driving hours.
It’s probably parts delivery as and when required to keep stock holding to a minimum
Car lines use a JIT system and it’s being known for them to fly over parts on a hotshot to keep the production moving.
theres always loads parked on the outskirts of oxford aswell, which would tie in with the carparts theory

More to do with the weekend and holiday driving bans over on the mainland; those usually apply to 7.5t and above so these vehicles can keep moving on a Sunday, Public Holidays and summer Saturdays in the likes of Germany, Austria, France and so on when larger vehicles are parked up.
As these van have decimated the courier buisness in germany and else where dont be suprised if they bring a ban in for them at weekends.
you seem to see them captured regular by french customs always seem to be parked up at the train
It is the same ALL over Europe. Loads of these hogging all parking spaces at services, parking areas etc…I used to do car part express and saw them everywhere doing the same. I used to call in at goods in at UK sites, and be told…“Nice to see a British worker for a change!”
Is this why City Link went bust?
I was told by a DVSA officer I know very well, its to save on the Levy that as to be paid with the trucks come over here, they only need to pay 1 day because they tip off, then little tilts 3.5ton things wisp it all away. No Levy on them.
I was in a services many months ago and could not help myself and listen to one guy on chatting to an English guy. The driver of the pol plated 3.5 ton tilt thing was Scottish.
Cheers Welly.
I’ve seen a similar thing around an industrial estate in Kings Norton, Birmingham. Curious!!
