What's this all about then?

A228 Halling.
Been across this roundabout a few times of late and I’ve just noticed that the railway line doesn’t go anywhere, according to old maps it never seemed to and the roundabout is clearly new-ish. What’s the plan

And whilst we are at it, what’s this place alongside the M55?

Someone must know. Cheers.

Don’t know. Maybe the site next to it paid to have a rail head option, so the roundabout builders had to work around their reserved right.

Second pic looks like a resevoir, BFI or similar. Stick a link up to the map.

Could be I suppose, just looks a bit weird with loads of CCTV and high fencing around it.

Oh Cheers, I did wonder about the Cemex site, but seeing as it’s been demolished it’s a bit weird that it was laid and never used.

Have a look at the map on Alan Turnbulls Secret Bases website:

Looks like a resevoir.

It’s a cool looking reservoir though, more like a secret base in an obvious location. The covered reservoirs around here are very dull looking oblong humps.

Cheers for the replies.

Roundabout A228 Halling, entrance to proposed new cement works plus rail link to Medway Valley line, has been on hold for a number of years now, due I belive to over capacity in the UK cement market, there’s also a plan for a new bridge over the Medway from Holborough to Wouldham which could connect to the same roundabout,if it gets the go ahead is anyone’s guess!

I find it a bit weird to lay 100 yards of track, would have thought they’d just do the basic groundworks and put the bridges in. Hang on that’d be sensible.

As said before its a spur from the railway line to the quarry should Cemex start operating again, they had one further down the line at the old plant, which is now going to be a housing estate. Think the track was laid there just to get the profile of the curve, in recent photos its no longer in situ.
