What's the procedure?

What’s the procedure nowadays for getting a class one licence?

I might pay for my nephew to get his, He’s 24 with a car licence only.

Is it. Apply for a provisional hgv licence, theory test and hazard perception. Dcpc, then class C?

Can he do his dcpc without having a provisional hgv licence?

medical, apply for provisional,

You need a provisional before you can do any DCPC stuff.

Theory and hazard must be done before driving practical.

DCPC theory must be done before DCPC practical BUT you can do both parts of DCPC before your theory and haz perception, however DCPC card will not be issued until you have done all 4 modules

Bear in mind that he will complete his driver cpc by tests - not by the 35 hrs periodic training. The first test is a case studies test taken at the theory test centre. The second is a practical demonstration test taken at a driving test centre.

Best to select a good trainer and let them sort it all out.

From most of the blokes I seem to bump into in supermarket RDC waiting rooms, the first stage seems to be getting your mouth widened and your brains scraped out.

sorry Harry, you can only book your brain removal once you get your license back from the DVLA once you pass. NHS GP’s charge a fortune though so your better going to wherever you had your medical done

You’re a very generous uncle, it can be quite a big investment. I hope he appreciates it and really wants to do it.

There’s a lot to learn as I’m discovering - it’s so much more work than any other licence I’ve achieved.

Even once the theory and haz and cpc 2 is done getting the noggin around driving time regs, working time regs (and how these fit together) can be quite something.

Just make sure he’s going to put the effort and brain power behind your investment. Good luck to him if you do!

Don’t worry about the hours regs, most of us don’t fully understand them. One glance at this forum should tell you that!
