Whats the point?

Looking to change my job and find there is work out there but the rates are all over the place.

Class 2 ranges from £7.50 - £10 ph
Class 1 £6.50-£10ph

7.5t £7-£9 ph
(std rates)

Agencies take the ■■■■, jobs with proper firms are few and far between- most want class 1 but pay 7.5t money!
I work for a BIG logistics company - im on very good money for class2 but the job isnt good, nor are the people upstairs- couldnt run a bath!!

Sometimes it just isnt the money, but doing a decent job for a decent firm,in a decent truck!

So whats the point of ugrading my class2 to class 1 if i can make the same money driver a puddle jumper??

Kinda demoralising, job aint what it used to be! :frowning:

The jobs are out there mate but the ones with a fair days pay for a fair days work for good drivers are few & far between.

I’m back on the agency & luckily my guy there knows me well enough not to put me in the really ■■■■■■ places but I’ve already had to laugh in the face at 1 outfit that wanted me to go perm. £7.50 for a 45hr week, a really dirty & labour intensive job for people who can sack a bloke quite easily for having a bad day, perhaps they should have canvassed my willingness to go perm before they treated him like ■■■■ !

I’m currently earning £9ph with OT after 8, averaging a 12hr day on 6 car transporters. Clearing the backlog of crash damaged salvage cars from the recent cold spell, I’d love to go perm with this outfit, even if they couldn’t run a bath, but the regular drivers earn enough to put up with a lot & the backlog is looking like it’s clear next week.

Ho Hum, just have to keep plodding along & maybe one day . . . .

At my firm class 1 and 2 get the same money- fixed salary it s good money but i would rather be in same motor every day doing a trunking job/tramping/multidrop /nights etc trouble is the "your just a driver " attitude of some agencies/firms .

My firm are one of the biggest and treat people like **** . Firms dont value good drivers, your just a number, my guvnor would run the whole place on agency if he could to save money- no loyalty to staff. If you have to run bent to make a delivery - they dont care -it really takes the pi** .Even told a driver to drive back to yard when he was out of hours as they needed the load! :imp:

Been there 5 years but I would leave and take a wage drop for a decent job, just need to find one !

You need to expand your train of thought a bit further. If the 7.5T job is 8 hours per day and involves handball and crappy delivery spots the class2 work which may be easy and involves 12 hours per day may be more your bag. All depends on what you want, but don’t let me try to educate you, you go for the highest price tag !!!

Good question eh?

Sometimes it just isnt the money, but doing a decent job for a decent firm,in a decent truck!

You’re getting there !!!

Anyway, you’re right about planners not being able to run a ■■■■ up in a brewery, drivers are as bad, some don’t even know what they wanna do !!!

LOL!
Yeah, im in a well paid class 2 job and i want to leave for a lower paid better job…must be mad!!

Like i said, sometimes money isnt everything!

I know what i want but my chance of finding is slim to none!!

You just want good money and lots of different and interesting things to drive and do,i can just tell !!!

I’d be happy with a class 2 job - same truck -different deliveries ,different places, few nights out etc , what i would call proper driving.Fed up for last 5 years of different truck every day, other peoples crap left in it,stinky and smelly and no one cares about the truck, phones kicked off the dash ,things dont work , filthy windows etc!!! :imp:
