What's the most recent Stralis like to drive?

Just been for an interview and it went well enough.
They have newish Stralis motors and it’s about 18 years since I drove an Iveco. I didn’t like it then but at least they look better inside now - maybe

If it has a manual gearbox, cack. If auto, mega cack!

Lol, it’s auto

They are comfortable enough to drive, but I have 2 main issues with them (aside from the general build quality).
The auto box is dire. Won’t pick up drive quick enough, changes up too slowly, block changes when you only need 1 gear, I could go on!
The other thing is unwanted reflections on the passenger door’s quarterlight glass. Any stray sunlight or, at night, yard lights or vehicle lights, bouncing off the glass will stop any use of the N/S mirrors and leave you blind!

Stralis is no longer it’s Hi-way now
I’ve been driving a daf cf for the past week and can’t wait to get back in iveco
There the best truck latest truck for the £ more bang

Aha! Light at the end of the tunnel :grimacing:

You can turn the light down for night vision.
Built in sat nav Bluetooth media player.
Even tells you what size shoe you need in France?
And how many euro it gonna cost you.
The new 1 are a vast improvement on the old ones.

Thanks Jack, I feel better already

Thanks spook. These are problems I’ve noticed with both MAN TGX and Merc Actros cabs too though the main one would be the dodgy gear changes. The Merc was worse imo. Just when you need acceleration and give it the beans it would change up a cog. Most inconvenient at times.

Quackers:

Will you be nighting out in her?
There’s load of space+a poker table.
I know where you can get some cheap floor mats make all the diffrerence.
Pm for details.

ZF Arsetronic box, enuff said.

Do you still have to tilt the cab to put engine oil in on the latest model ?

Sadly at first it will be days only  which will be my first foray into days for years.
It seems that tramping may not be required for 2 - 3 months yet

It’s the biggest day cab u ever seen

Lol, it looked that way!

Will do, re the mats.

Drivers seat mounted too high. You end up having it at pretty much the lowest setting so when you go over a bump it bottoms out with a thud. Just as crap to drive as all the rest of the Iveco crap is. Feels cheap and nasty. Horrid things to drive.

Just make it home from home but you want need them as a daytripper.

As you can see, some like some not like. As your not buying it, and assuming you want the job, you don’t have the option of picking what you want so it’s a case of get on with it. We use them, some 62 plate some 64 plate, I find they do the job well enough.

If the wage is good and the work suits, what does it matter? As long as the trucks are legal, I wouldn’t give a toss…

  • steering is far too light and has no feel, especially at high speed.
  • auto box is much better in the latest model than the previous one; changes are faster but still glacial in comparison to Renault/Volvo.
  • still ‘all or nothing’ on the accelerator when trying to couple up to a loaded trailer which invariably leads to a monumental bang whilst you wonder if the pin is still intact.
  • media system absolutely garbage. Takes ages to turn on, sound quality and signal range is terrible. Satnav is slow and clunky and takes an age to get a GPS lock.
  • sunroof and top drivers door seal are very prone to water leaks, both of which drench you as you’re trying to drive the thing.
  • dash reflections in the driver side window are incredibly annoying at night even with the brightness turned right down.
  • seat base cushioning is inadequate - you will have a numb arse after an hour or so.
  • bunk is rock hard and uncomfortable.
  • switches are all in dumb places. Why put the light switch on the left side of the column where you can’t reach it from outside? Same for hazards and catwalk switches. Why would you put the diff lock switch where the exterior light switch would be? Completely retarded.
