£200-230 a shift? Really? That is one hell of a 21 hour day!
Does anyone do this sort of work (21 hours)? It must be NACKERING!
Nice to see they dont NEED 2 years!
After looking into it a bit, looks like an Agency in Mansfield. (So the usual Agency rules apply - Rates, hours and jobs are probably BS)
The only local company I know that do that sort of hours in the area is probably Sports Direct.
14.25hrs, time and a half after eight, plus your bonus takes it over two hundred a shift.
christmas rush starting early? could be some companies desperate for drivers this pre yuletide.
Could well be, I suspect the 1.5x is not offered after 8, I may be wrong but I could be wrong.
8 Hours at £9.75 = £78
6.25 Hours at £14.63 = £91.44
£35 Shift Bonus
That takes it to £204.44
Or;
8 Hours at £9.75 = £78
12.25 Hours at 14.63 = £179.22
£35 Shift Bonus
Is a nice £292.22
I really cant see them paying time and a half on a 21 hour shift
No, you just have the potential to earn that on a shift. Doesn’t mean you’re ever going to do so.
A non-bullcrap job would just advertise £200 as a flat rate to get everyone interested who’ve worked out that even at max 15 hours per shift, £200 isn’t actually bad money at all.
The more it’s dressed up, the more crappy it sounds though.
It’s probably £200 per shift IF you have qualified for the overtime rate after 40 hours rather than just a single 8 hours in a shift.
I was offered something similar at DHL once, which of course included the overtime rate after 8 hours, which you never got because you’d just be getting 8 hours a day Monday-Friday earlies, thus not even qualifying for the so-called “shift allowance” either. Worked out at £300 gross per 5 day week. Not quite the same kick as saying £200 per shift is it?
Call me cynical if you like, but it’s upto the agencies in question to prove to us they are not full of crap. There’s no shortage of work right now, and they know it. Attempting to poach drivers from other agencies in the run-up to Christmas smacks of us all being treated like shallow fools doesn’t it?
I’m quite happy to stay put where I have been for the rest of the year, satisfied at the amount of work I’m getting, and the rate I’m being paid for it.
What next? - Offers of £20ph to cross picket lines in the upcoming RM strike?
Double manned on sports direct work will rack up the hours with a 21 hour spread possible.

Just a pain in the ■■■ with the cages and tail lifts.
I haven’t worked in the transport industry for a good few years now so forgive me if I seem naive, but is £9.75 p/h considered a good hourly rate these days?

About average is my guess, oh and welcome to TNUK.
Yes,its Sports Direct.
I go in there most days and when you see the drivers they look like the walking dead!
Ive heard the money is pretty good but you have got to work for it.Nothing for nothing these days…
As per usual, great until after Christmas then it’s see you in 4 months.
The company I worked for last year do a double manned run 4 times a week from Washington ending up in Cambridge. They are met by another driver there who drives the load back to depot, they drive the van back. Rate for that is £9.98 basic, time + £1 after 10 hrs + night out + meal allowance. I’ve always thought them driving the van back would be illegal but each pair do it twice a week.

Christmas run-up means you can pick and choose what jobs you want. If they are all offering similar levels of pay, then the first one to sign you up for the next 6/10/13 weeks or whatever in one go is most likely to nail down your labour over the ensuing period.
This applies especially to those firms like Royal Mail who’ll put you on parity pay after 13 weeks, so even more reason to be keen to get signed up for that long.
No phone calls until mid December isn’t going to cut it of course. I’m planning a holiday and an ADR course for January, so if I’m going to be working instead, I’d need to be booked by the first day back after the new year hols at the latest.
