Is there still snow on the A66?
Heading Eastbound from Penrith and just wondering if its clear?
Unless it has gotten worse than it was on Thursday night it is open .
Came across this afternoon. No problems at all.
Been over it all week on nights. Worst part is Scotch Corner to Bowes, mainly that first single carriageway section where Mainsgill Farm is. As long as that’s clear you’re OK. Over the top at Stainmore where you’d think it would be the worst has been clear all week as has the west side to Penrith.
The snowplough and gritter drivers were earning their money on Thursday night . I went across from Penrith to Scotch Corner and they had just got it cleared but I think it was closed the other way for a short time . By the time I’d got to Durham and loaded and come back it was open and I had a good run over - looked at a couple of laybys as I was getting close to running out of spreadover but pushed on over Stainmore and down to Appleby and then decided to call it a night . I noticed on Friday morning going down from Shap to J36 the temp guage was reading -6 in places at 09.30 in the morning - must have been cold up on Stainmore .
