What's it going to be next

A vast number who left will have no intention whatsoever to return. In fact around 50000 reasons in the form of bounce back loans that they have to intention of ever repaying.

Speaking to a customer that we deliver to, them being foreign, all said lots of their Kin, had taken these loans, sent it home, then sold the take-away/ cash n carry to a cousin, gone home and also not paid any Tax or Vat, and will probably come back under another name…

If they’re paying no tax or vat how are they claiming business loans?

50,000 quid loan is on 25% of turnover.
So either these are for £200k drivers? Or if these are the drivers keeping our pay down, it’ll be more like £6,000 or less.
Whatever the amount, a scam is wrong of course, but are many drivers fleeing the country with pockets full of fivers I wonder?

Bounce back loans were self certified, with no turnover or affordability checks

This came up on my Google feed

But were only available to pre-existing business account holders I think?
I seem to recall some being refused. It was a bit more than “just like that”.

Nothing new about prisoners on day release driving trucks.
Sadly, it doesn’t mean that just because their sentence is nearing the end that they’ve had their psychological problems, like lethal anger management issues, assessed before being allowed out to work.

Dean Phoenix, murders his wife in a fit of rage, then kills a three-year old on a zebra crossing because he’s an angry driver who isn’t using his mirrors - especially the Class VI front wide-angle mirror

Is that what this week’s issue of Comrade Weekly told you?

And as the video of the Pillocks driver in Scotland who created an accident that didn’t need to exist we already have quite a few lorry drivers who are like that without having set foot in prison. Given how many are ex-forces who get zero help to address mental issues there’s probably less coming out of prison with such issues where they do get help than there are from the military.

Considering how corrupt certain EU countries are when in comes to issuing driving licenses. I would not be surprised if this was to happen that many refugees would just get a hgv licence instead of paying £5000+ to cross the channel on a dingy.

Heck, the cost of a HGV licence in many EU countries is pretty cheap. Maybe this will be the new method which by refugees get into the UK. [emoji38]

It’s fair to say I disagree with the idea. Heck some drivers are going on strike soon over pay parity issues. So its not like the industry is doing much to even keep current drivers on board. It’s silly.

Which EU countries have corruption regarding driving licence issue?

I have heard many first hand accounts that in some eastern European countries drivers get agricultural licenses which clear them to drive hgvs. This may of changed but I have spoken to a few EE drivers who have confirmed this. They were from either Poland or Romania I cant remember now.

It is entirely possible that the EU has made an effort to standardize all driving tests in the Union now though.

Good article in the Financial Times about shortage of HGV drivers.
It gave a good honest report into how the Industry got into this state.
Also what could be done to solve it using the Netherlands as an example.

I would suspect the last paragraph is near the mark.
Stories of what was happening 30 or so years are not so relevant today:
I also know of UK drivers who passed their tests in tiny Bedfords with 20ft trailers, and some others who simply “acquired” an HGV ticket, only passing a car test.
More recently tests are taken in small auto rigid trucks, coupled to short trailers. Those drivers are let loose on 44 artics the next day. Is the UK current test standard all it should be? Some passing current tests make excellent drivers, some never will.
.

Just look at the article that’s all I’m saying.
Search driver shortage and then F T heading SCRAP it give the best none bias view.
It’s better at explaining the situation to none drivers than any company bias RTA FTA.
Article pushed by them in any media that would listen too them.

Just look at it with an open mind.
Best article I have seen that puts our view forward.
If they are run by the FTA RTA there doing them no favours

You could drive a 3 wheel Scarab with a 15’ trailer, Scammell Coupling and get a licence to drive a Guy with an 8 cylinder engine longer than the Scarab cab.

You could ride a BSA Bantam at 16 and jump on a Hayabusa when you are 65 without knowing the difference
