so the boss of a well known northern haulage company decided to stop payments for parking in truckstops and services,
he made his employers park on industrial estates and layby’s…a lot of drivers up sticks and called it a day…what does one driver do he pays out of his own pocket to park up the gaffers lorry…wtf is going on with this industry? maybe we should all have a whipround at christmas to buy the gaffer a holiday in spain…bemused

no i’m not the boss i just find it hard to belive how bad the industry is descending the firm in question is from the oldham area
name and shame then…
why would a driver spit the dummy out for not being given money to pay for parking when its not his truck? is that not what laybys and ind estates are for. once a few loads get nicked/curtains slashed, then he might relent.personally though,i don’t see why the tail should try to wag the dog,and if the driver leaves for that reason, then good riddance if that’s the attitude.

thing is the said company forced drivers into truckstops when the going was good, so over the years you got used to the security it was pointed out in no uncertain terms the consequences of not parking in truckstops, people left because it’s a when it suits policy what i am trying to get through is how sad is it when you pay out of your own pocket to park up in order to feel secure…
im afraid at the end of a 15 hr shift i want a shower and summat decent to eat.not stuck in a layby tryin to wash my arse in a bowl and then cookin summat to eat.i know which company it is left there the other week for this reason.

Should be illegal not to pay parking if that’s what the driver wants. Nobody gives a ■■■■ though.
The highways should make hard standing areas with no facilities directly off the motorway’s only for trucks with at least cctv & anpr in that are FREE. They bang on about road safety but its a nightmare to ditch the motor somewhere decent at night sometimes.
They could even contribute to the economy & pay some poor ■■■■ on benefits to walk the place at night looking for thieves to equalise.
My gaffer pays parking then gives us it back next week,I don’t mind so much as we only do the odd night out.
My mate works for a large haulier that want trucks secure and pay parking but don’t have an national account, the other week he paid out over £130 in parking and toll, now I think that’s unfair to make a driver pay all that out and many may not be able to afford to.
I personally wouldnt pay to maintain anyones truck except my own, more the fools who do, there can be a lot of cash lost if you should leave, a weeks night out money + parking could easily go over the £200 mark, if you can afford to lose that kind of money, good luck to you, i speak from past experience when i had to wait 3 weeks for money i was promised when i got back, so lesson learned, if it was an emergency, and to get me back to base, then i would providing i had phoned the office to verify my outlay.
I believe that if a company suddenly stops paying for parking, it means they are having to cut costs, and maybe the next stop is bankruptcy…who knows, but if drivers are forced into parking where there are no facilities, then put a sign on the back of the trailer saying Tinkers welcome
that should earn enough to pay for the next few nights in a truckstop, meals included.
A remember 1 night years ago parked up at Markam moor TS. Had some security boy bangin on the window at the wee hours of the mornin. Woke me up so he did.
So a jump out and start bangin on his car bonnet just as much as he did on ma motor. He didn’t like that bit.
Of course it was cause he wanted payin, I explained I had no money etc and to write to the company.
Said letter arrived complaining of my attitude and lack of money blah blah blah.
The letter was written by the security boy himself, addressed and signed personaly.
I was sent too personaly deliver the outstanding money once I was down that way the following week.
I arrived in the boys street obviously in the wee small hours with the usual tipper on which was on leaf springs back then, empty of course with greedy boards bangin away inside. Banged on his door( 2am) and delivered the due payment, (forgot too mention it was all in 10 pence peices). His face was a picture, and his wifes.
I never went back to that dump.
