What's cheaper to maintain

As the post says do you think Volvo fh 480 or a actros 2546 both are 09 plate on fridge work to Germany mainly.

parts pricing, i would say the Merc

Merce will need a clutch if its auto. Volvo usually need a bit of engine tlc and the i shift is known to break too. Not much init to be honest.

If you are running to Germany, the Merc must be the best bet. But others may disagree.

Think the Merc would be slightly cheaper on parts, and a bit better on fuel.

I think either 09-reg would be likely to need a clutch in the not-too-distant future if they are around the 500,000km mark, also alternator and tensioners, I believe Volvo recommend changing those at 500,000km.

Appreciate the info I also thought the merc should fair slightly better

I am Volvo thru and thru but the latest Mercs gave me no trouble. I hope they have sorted the bottom bunk out?

The bunks are much better in the Volvo .

But the brakes were better in the Merc.
Hope this helps?

Top bunk is the place to be in a Merc, agree with comment on the brakes and as for the “constant” engine brake, you would be better dragging your feet out the cab door, but the megaspace cab is very good for tramping.

my 05 plate Actros has just had it’s first clutch at 840 thou… Had Volvo’s and Dafs for years this being my First Merc, must say have warmed to it.
