Not yet used the tacho. But beside from manually keeping track of the time driving before i know when to take a 45min break, can you do a print out throughout the day to tell you how long youve been driving and doing other work?
A digital tachograph will show you the accumulated driving time since your last break and the accumulated daily driving time, the same applies to periods or break.
There are two main types of tachograph VDO and Stoneridge, here’s a user manual for a VDO tachograph.
It’s quite likely that you will have a display on the dash showing drive time used or available, possibly also daily drive time.
The newest trucks with infotainment screens may also have an ‘app’ for drive time, our volvos you can see how many reduced rests and 10 hour drives you have used and your 2 week totals etc.
Press up down buttons on tacho and they well show you either how long you’ve driven for or how long left before due a break.
Some tachos also show weekly driving how many 10 hrs left etc.
Lot of newer trucks will display all info on the dash once you have you have worked out how to change the dash display.
Yes you can do a printout during your shift. There easy enough to read.
Most tachos will flash warn you 15 mins before your out of driving time.
General rule no more than 6 hours or 4. 5 driving time then need take a break.
Don’t bother working out driving time using pen n paper as if sat in traffic move an inch or can add a minute on.
Basically all info is on tacho head and easy to understand once get use one
