By the hour.
All depends on what I am doing. On winter roads we can do as we choose, so it is not unusual to do 20 hours a day for 5 or 6 days, snatching a kip when you can.
On normal trunking we are allowed to drive 70 hours a week and usually do, then with the tipping and loading it is normal to go over 80 averaged over 5 days, then an enforced day and a half off. Truth is, if you get delayed a couple of times you can compress your 36 hour reset down and keep tramping on. 100 plus hours is regular enough, I suppose.
Wednesday to Saturday, 0400 starts. Up to Bellshill in Scotland from Wigan in North West England and it’s job and knock. Usually around 11-12 hours a day so between 44-48 hours per week. I get a full weeks wage too cos we’re salaried. Should have to work 5 days over 7 but because I do a regular long run that other drivers don’t want to do I do the same 4 for the same money. Been doing it for 3 and a half years now.
It’s changed a bit now cos Morrisons bought us so we now drive their Daf’s. They’re all 09, day cab auto’s with no manual selector as it’s the fleet model. Not the best motor I’ve ever driven but I still love my job.
Safe truckin’ peeps.
Mike.
as little as posable now
the jobs a good un but its zb’d
I do around 48-50 hours a week, if i work overtime on a saturday its around 60 hours.
60hrs a week is normal , 2 or 3 nights out thrown in
On the bus firm I’m at now, it is decreasing due to lack of work. Before schools broke up I would easily get 45+. Now I’m struggling to make the contracted 37.5 (although the night rates and saturday rates help make up the shortfall)
45hrs a week, usually 7.30 till 5, Mon till Fri , done 2 Sat mornings in last 18mths (feel like a part timer)
I average 55hrs every week with around 10-12hrs POA, i run about local loading up south trailers for the trampers, which then go down with the night trunk.
usually get through 7 trailers which is a fair bit of coupling / uncoupling in a shift. As i’m road bound with most of them, very rarely get away with just using the shunt button
an average week for me is about six to eight days.
