After reading all these posts about sat nav s OMG Get a Map or an A-Z FFS rant over
A what?
I’ve got one thanks.
Still use the sat nav more though, as I don’t have to pull over and try to read tiny writing to see where I supposed to go, only to find out the map is out of date and the road it shows is no longer there, or is completely different to what it shows.
Times change, technology moves on… Get over it.
Same with ■■■■navs they ain’t as up to date as you think.

Times change I know! but why put all faith in a sat nav? what ever happened to lookin at the map and asking local people for directions. Never did me any wrong UK and in Europe!

I don’t ever put any faith in a sat nav. I use my eyes and follow sign posts. If a road looks dodgy, I don’t take it. A sat nav merely offers guidance, much like a map, just saves me having to stop and look at it.
I reckon I actually ignore 80% of all sat nav instructions! it’s just helpful to have it there for when you need to quickly sort a route out.
I have full uk coverage 1:50k scale OS maps in my cab, so please don’t think I don’t use maps.

I used to think like you mate then the wife bought me a Euro tom tom as a present, I wouldn’t be without it now, it has revolutionized the job, still use the map as a guide and common sense when it tells me to go down certain roads.
I needed to change something as I am now unable to read the small print in AtoZs, apart from that they all date back to the 80s anyway

Mainly because it wasn’t even recognisable as a rant until you said it was over
I reckon I could rant better than that and I don’t do ranting
rant
verb
- speak or shout at length in an angry, impassioned way.
At length OP, at length.
I had a rant once but realised it was more of a whinge really.
Anyway releasing yourself from the Sat Nav is the road to true enlightenment.
One day the GPS satellites will throw a wobbler and only the chosen few will be able to find their destination (yes even if they have been there before they will still be buggered).
Old school A-Z’s and Maps are the future and the rare gift to ask the local village idiot for directions. I mean why do I always get them who choose to draw a map in the dust on me trailer- now I have to stop every 5 minutes to look at it.

Sat navs are maps, so as and when the GPS signal fails, you can switch to map, assuming you know where you are !
Look at you mere mortals extolling the wonders of the Sat Nav, and the pure virtue of a Map.
