Whats a good ideal hourly rate

All the £8 merchants are always constantly advertising .You would think they would get it by now.

All the good firms are not advertising ,You know those that usually retain staff for years .

Class 1 should be £12 minimum plus overtime after 10 hours imo.

£8 no thank you i dont care for 60 hours and b.s bonuses .

No. Bugger it. Tramping is a crap job if you ain’t being paid for all the hours you actually spend with your truck. :bulb: :bulb: :bulb:

Hmmm interesting. I wonder if all the plumbers/ sparkies/brickies etc who swarm down the M1 on a Monday morning and back up on a Friday evening get paid for all hours away from home, even whilst they’re sat in their digs of a night?

A local chap who works for a window installing company only gets paid when he reaches the job, at present he is working near Banbury so travelling several hours daily in his own time but using a company van. He USED to get paid door to door but the company stopped that a few years ago now to remain competitive in the window business.

Pete.

If he’s not on rockstar wages he’s a mug.

^^ It’ll never happen Pat , same as in the US of A , lots of ■■■■■■■■ and moaning but that’s as far as it goes . Don’t hear many Canadians complaining though , aside from the line haul van guys . If I told you my hourly you’d weep then probably head straight to the border

I have earned reputation in my company as someone who stands up for my rights and the rights of others, One guy called me one day to say goodbye as he was leaving because the company had cheated him out of money, I called not just the manager but the VP of the company, he got his pay corrected in minutes, last winter we got told that our weekly guarantee was being taken away for the previous week because the blizzard we had closed the refinery down for the weekend, as we do not work weekend I was on the phone within minutes, again to the VP over the heads of management, there was a lot of debating but they knew I was serious, we all got our full pay. The top guys in the company of over 2,000 employees, even the CEO know me and know I stand up for my rights and the rights of others, they respect me for it.
When you stick up for yourself you get respect.

Regardless of your hourly rates, you all need to stand together and demand time and a half after 8 hours, double time on Saturday and Sundays, the same on a bank holiday with a day off in lue… What the f*** has happened to the British truck driver ? And don’t tell me it’s all the immigrants Pat, if you are willing to work for less because of them that’s your choice, if you all stood together and downed tools you would all be on great basic pay and other deals, it has happened before and in two weeks we bought the UK to a standstill, when the shops are empty and petrol is not available at the pumps you have the country by the throat.

No chance, it will never happen.
Nobody has the balls to stand up for themselves anymore.
Just read some of the stuff on here that drivers are fully prepared to put up with, without a hint of resistance. :unamused:
Then you mention Unions to them, and you get a reaction as if you’ve ■■■■■■ on their shoes :unamused: , but they can’t (or won’t) see that the Union firms have the better t.s and c.s than the non union ones.
The best you can do nowadays is just let the rest of em get on with it, and try and make things as best as you can for yourself, wages are a different matter, you NEED a group approach to achieve anything, but sadly nobody will back you as a group…or dare I say it union.

not all of them , our girl has no debt as if she wants something dad pays for it :unamused:

it don’t half make you wonder though , when ever there’s a debate about wages it’s always the ones who supposedly won’t work for peanuts / buttons , who are according to them on excellent t&c,s who do all the shouting :exclamation: :exclamation: .mmmmmm

The best hourly rate of all - is being paid for every single hour from the moment you arrive at the workplace, to the time you walk out the gate to go home. :sunglasses:

I’ve posted before on the notion that imho - a Tramper should be paid 15 hours per day, and therefore never have the need to spend more than 3 nights out per week.

If a Tramper only gets paid for say, 10 hours per day - then with the sleep break being 9 hours (who needs more sleep than that?) - wtf does a driver do for the other 5 hours when they are neither on duty, nor on daily rest■■? Or on daily rest, but not eating/sleeping come to that?

No. Bugger it. Tramping is a crap job if you ain’t being paid for all the hours you actually spend with your truck. :bulb: :bulb: :bulb:

Ridiculous idea. Whats the difference between finishing work for the day and spending the night in the truck or going home for the evening??
Any spare i have other than sleeping (never more than 7hrs) i cook, clean my truck and workout /go for a run and have a shower ect, no different than what i would do if at home.
Tbh it really doesnt bother me in the slightest whether i spent 5 nights out or spent 5 nights at home, i do the same stuff, apart from one thing, ill clean the villa rather than vacuum the cab out.
No haulier would be in buisness if having to pay a driver every hour he/she was with the truck…

Rob K:
And then you woke up, didn’t you Pat?

LOL, not a dream so I didn’t wake up, when any driver on this job has a problem with unfairness he usually turns to me and I always contact the CEO, we are very good friends aside from our positions

It’s almost like that there’s a “Black Market” for proper driving jobs in this industry!

For those looking to come into the industry from the outside - there’s plenty of jobs driving food about, with a choice of shifts to choose from as well. Pick your food carrier and takes your choice.

Why ponce about with sub-£10ph work far away from where you live, when you can easily get the rates touted on here (£12 days, £14nights) at a depot near you? :bulb:
