Whats a good ideal hourly rate

toonsy:
The point I’m making is to try not to get sucked into pay rates and look at the whole package.

That^^^ It’s very difficult to compare each job and it’s not only the money, it’s what you have to do for the money, £10.00 and hour for a trunking job is different to £10.00 an hour for something 10 drops a day that need handballing.

£10 a hour for me, straight through, no deductions for breaks, I just tell him the hours from card in to card out. Don’t get a % for handlay or waiting time. Ngts and Sunday payed £120 regardless if it’s 1 or 3 loads or if it’s 2 or 10hrs. It all levels out short or long days, he’s happy and I ain’t fussed.

I’m guessing you’re on day rate so I’d work out a rough hourly figure based on what you earn now. I doubt they’re going to exceed that by much, if at all. You might get more useful help if you put some figures up.

, if your like me mid 50,s then £8-£9 ph as its only pocket money to be honest

If it’s just pocket money why are you tramping for Stobarts? Get a £8ph 40hr job driving a puddle jumper for some manufacturer & have a better home life.

Last job I had before retiring nearly 7 years ago was between £11- £12 p/h straight, extra for lates and nights, for me when drivers talk about £10.50 these days, glad i`m out of it

Never been an employer as such but…a few years back had an excess of work and paid a driver 14eur p/h up to 8hr and 21eur overtime. There was still net profit in the job. Most of this 9£ and £10 p/h malarky is employers being plain greedy…

Could it be that there are more lorries than there are loads, and so the race to the bottom keeps on going. Young folk are being suckered into spending £3K on driver training with no hint of no experience = no job.

won’t get into willy waving but i got lucky on a good contract and pull 11.70ph take home in the midlands based on 35hrs spread over 4x4. Rigids.

Regardless of your hourly rates, you all need to stand together and demand time and a half after 8 hours, double time on Saturday and Sundays, the same on a bank holiday with a day off in lue… What the f*** has happened to the British truck driver ? And don’t tell me it’s all the immigrants Pat, if you are willing to work for less because of them that’s your choice, if you all stood together and downed tools you would all be on great basic pay and other deals, it has happened before and in two weeks we bought the UK to a standstill, when the shops are empty and petrol is not available at the pumps you have the country by the throat.

I was in that strike many years ago and we won hands down. I have not changed now either, on a couple of occasions in this country I have actually intervened when I felt drivers were being cheated out of what is fair… I won every time. It’s a case of standing up and telling them you and the rest will do nothing until you get what is right.

^^ It’ll never happen Pat , same as in the US of A , lots of ■■■■■■■■ and moaning but that’s as far as it goes . Don’t hear many Canadians complaining though , aside from the line haul van guys . If I told you my hourly you’d weep then probably head straight to the border

That’s not something that would have me waving my willie…

I get 9.23ph for 9hours then 1.5 after then time and a half on a Saturday.Double time sunday and bank holidays.Alot better than some employers in my area.

depends how old you are , if your 20-30 mortgage , kids , etc then you’d want £12-£15 ph
, if your like me mid 50,s then £8-£9 ph as its only pocket money to be honest

That’s one of the stupidest things I’ve heard a working man say, wages are wages no matter your age.

Not at all, single people like me should be paid the least money and those with kids paid more, but when the kids leave the house their wages are lowered in line with single people

Great idea. Drivers wanted married people need not apply.

This works for me : £9.95 ph (guaranteed 50 hrs), every hour over 50 paid at £15 ph, weekends and Bank Hols £15 ph, £25 night out plus all food and parking paid. Bonus at Christmas. What’s not to like?

50 hrs.

The best hourly rate of all - is being paid for every single hour from the moment you arrive at the workplace, to the time you walk out the gate to go home. :sunglasses:

I’ve posted before on the notion that imho - a Tramper should be paid 15 hours per day, and therefore never have the need to spend more than 3 nights out per week.

If a Tramper only gets paid for say, 10 hours per day - then with the sleep break being 9 hours (who needs more sleep than that?) - wtf does a driver do for the other 5 hours when they are neither on duty, nor on daily rest■■? Or on daily rest, but not eating/sleeping come to that?

No. Bugger it. Tramping is a crap job if you ain’t being paid for all the hours you actually spend with your truck. :bulb: :bulb: :bulb:

Hmmm interesting. I wonder if all the plumbers/ sparkies/brickies etc who swarm down the M1 on a Monday morning and back up on a Friday evening get paid for all hours away from home, even whilst they’re sat in their digs of a night?
