What would you improve with modern lorries?

I’ve found with the mirrors if you buy a little squeezey from asda for a £1(other ones available) and a bottle of window cleaning spray, soak the mirrors on the spray and the squeezey it off(don’t wipe with cloth) they seem to stay clean a lot longer.

Hmmm wonder if this stuffs any use on mirrors then? Anybody tried it? amazon.co.uk/Rain-X-Water-R … B001RAJ1ZM

I use rain x on all my windows and mirrors, it doesn’t keep the mirrors clean as such, but they take longer to get dirty and when they do it only takes a quick wipe to clean them.

RainX…

Is good on windscreens but didn’t seem to make any difference when I used it on the mirrors.

It’s currently applied to my car front and rear screens and the glass panels in my shower.

That’s what I do! It’s by far the quickest and easiest way to clean the windows and mirrors.

I’ve used rainx in the past and it’s good stuff. Just don’t wipe it over auto wiper sensors because it sends them haywire in my experience.

Mirror cleaning was always an issue, we used to modify the nearside arm on Sed-Ak’s using a Foden mirror arm to move the mirror forward so that you viewed it through the windscreen. Never got mucky after that as the breeze kept them nice and clean.

Pete.

I would say that having a flat dash all the way across would be a great change, swoopy plastic isn’t much use for resting things on.

Seat controls on the inside, not the door side, of the seat.

All points air suspension as standard would be good. Springs on the front is archaic.

Less autonomous crap, or user settings that respond to your digicard instead of just resetting each time the engine is turned off.

Put the Digi card reader somewhere convenient so that you can easily access data whilst driving, not where you need to have the neck of a giraffe to read it. I have never understood why they put it so high!

Id imagine its high up to avoid being ruined by spilt coffee?
Or maybe its susceptible to the sugar left when spilt Pernod evaporates?? Theres a small tray (too small for my atlas) on my DAF, with charging points for phones and audio sockets. It`s directly under the cup holders… Probably designed by the same person who did the software for the gearbox.

Non NON NON Jamais !!

Compressed air jet for the mirrors?

a small fresh air flap directly ahead or above of the driver -the sort you can see outside thru ,controlled by a lever

Ah, you mean like Morris-Commercials had back in the 1940’s then? Bring back opening quarter lights in the cab door windows as well!

Pete.

I’d remove the anti collision system completely.

Had mine go off (active) on the motorway the other night with nothing near me for miles.

A full unit and tractor breaking activated.

Nothing recorded on the computer or abs ebs .

Could be nasty if someone is behind it would look like you break checked someone without break lights

Try reading one at night while wearing varifocals ! , not something you young superstars might experience but us old gits driving puddle jumpers with grandad rights do hate them being tucked away .
I have even found some on smaller trucks rigged for towing that have them fitted towards the bottom of the dash in the center .

Don’t forget the first DAF Lf’s that had the tacho unit down by your left knee

They were by your right knee in the old Renault Premiums, the old paper disc tacho’s that you put into the pop out drawer type, many left out drawers got ripped off by a drivers knee when exiting a vehicle, but not as bad as when they were overhead in the DAF CF’s and the drawer was left out and tilted down at just the right angle to slice your forehead open as you exited the vehicle…

I only ever missed and reminisced about quarter light windows when I was a smoker funnily enough now I no longer smoke the lack of them no longer bothers me in the slightest.
