What would you have?

We are replacing 2 x DAF Super Space cabs (510s)

What would you have if you could spec up your own lorry? We carry mainly bulky loads refridgerated, not massive mileages or heavy.

Just for fun but I’m interested to see what’s suggested

Happy with what I have 4x2 620 Streamline pulls well surprisingly decent on the fuel, wouldn’t spec anything now without a roof pod makes a massive difference when parked up in the day or summer nights.

What ever puts more, funds in the drivers pocket.

Second hand 340 Iveco?
.
More seriously I don’t have much experience of various truck makes.
If the current DAF and importantly the dealer service you’ve had, is all good, it would take a lot for me to change.

2019 daf dampens outside noise quite well, very important if you’re towing a fridge.

Quite like the look of those new Renaults, with the bigger cab, used to like the old style Magnum, or a Suoerspace DAF, or a Topline Scania, new Iveco looks cool also…to put it another way anything except a ■■■■ Actros. :imp:
My favourite tramping motor has always been the XXL MAN, it ticks all the boxes for living space.
On the other hand if I could get same wage as I’m on now, or more, and be able to book into decent hotels,.a Transit van would be fine  …as long as it had a decent sound system.
I’ve driven all the fancy trucks that I need to.

2019/20 DAF XF 530 with fridge, microwave and aircon pod.

Prefer reliability and decent back up from makers and dealerships who haven’t forgotten how the customer/supplier relationship should be conducted, so currently that’s something from Scania or MAN, preferably manual gearbox but at the very least manual override option with ecocruise ■■■■■■■■ either switchable off (MAN) or programmed out by dealer (Scania)

Large engine but not wanting massive bhp figures in relation to swept volume, high gearing, ease of running equals long term durability as well as good economy and a pleasant drive when the vehicle is on top of the job.

I’ve had a 12 plate DAF XF befor with twin bunks and a built in fridge so I’d go with another XF!!
Or a Renault T range…
Definitely not Merc :imp:

For me I love to try a Scania V8. I fell in love with a 142 while waiting to pass my test in the late 80’s. I always said I going to own one of them, I never did or even drive one. I still get that buzz when any V8 Scania over takes me, I even open the window to listen (yes I really that sad). Probably be a total disappointment, well that what I telling myself.

So a euro 3 V8 fully tang spec, not a damned Actros supermarket spec which I drive now :imp:

We have budget spec Actros as well but they’re the big cab version :sunglasses:
Do you find you still go for the key in the normal place every now and again or is that just me :open_mouth:

Other way round, I also drive P cab scanny and I try to insert key into the dash

Personally, I would prefer a traditional sleeper cab.

As I prefer living at my actual home rather than at work, and spending my wage on things like holidays and nice meals out with her on a weekend rather than buying Turkish Inspired curtains and lightbars for a truck to look all nice n pretty tucked in a layby off the A303… I couldn’t give a ■■■■ what keys my boss flung at me.

730 with an 18 speed Fuller bolted to it for me.

Id go for a Seddon Atkinson or a Gardiner with an eton twin splitter and one of those bits of wood for a bunk.

Apparently, that was when lorries were lorries and were much better than today’s versions…

I have just done a days work for a friend of a friend (just to top the pension up ), unfortunately the steed was a Merc Axor, what ever I spec truck I would want, I can tell you it would NEVER be one of those !
…my bones have been rattled enough!
