What would you do?

Just before xmas i was made redundant.

I started the job i am doing just after xmas, delivering office furniture.
When i went for the interview he told me what the job involved etc.
I would be working 44 hour week and any extra hours i did i would get in lou.
They did’nt pay night out money but paid expenses i.e parking ,meals also drinks infact every thing i need, unless i go for a pint which they won’t buy.
My week consists of,
Tuesday usually two drops around Derby finish about 1pm
Wednesday one drop in leicester, although they have started adding extra jobs finish about 2pm,start at 5.30 though.
Thursday start at 2am! finish about 5pm sometimes earlier depending on driving time.
Friday start about 7 finish about 5 unless i have time to get home then sometimes 9pm.
Saturday i normally run back to depot from leicester services.
Sunday,Monday days off.
I am averaging about 50 hours per week.

Now when i went for the job i thought i hope he did’nt ring me but as they was’nt any work about i took it.
I need some advice on confronting my boss about paying night out money, not giving me extra jobs.
The reason i ask is because when it comes to doing stuff like this i get shy and tongue twisted and then feel like an idiot.

Advice appriciated please.

do you have a written contract of employment with all those points
relateing to what your actual terms of contract. have you kept a record
of the work that you have done, If you have done the above and your
contract is stateing 44 hours you do have a case to put before your
boss but also check with a lawyer. or the union ,Now the other side
have you looked around for a new job as it may be either your boss or
you decide that the the job is not worth the bother, and you might also
find that some where else is better than your present place of employment

about the nightout money I know that I personally would tell him no money paid for a night out then no thank you I do not do nights, THATS
MY OWN OPINION:

What would you do?

Get another Job!

This guy is taking the pee! let him find a monkey because thats what he is looking for.

Night out money is paid for the inconvenience of not being at home, where you would get a hot meal, shower, etc.

We are lucky, whereby even if we run out of time an hour from base, then we are paid it,no question.

I’m sorry, but if my gaffer said he wasn’t paying night out money when I knew I wasn’t going to be at home, then I’m afraid we would be having to part company.

Ken.

here you go pete give him this:

dear gaffer
as of the end of next week i wont be back as im leaving.

yours
sincerly
brit pete.

Can you claim it directly from the vultures at inland revenue directly or does it have to be paid by the company you work for?.

You’re not alone. When I started I always tried to the “right thing” and it’s taken about the last 2 years to get it right, with the last 6 months being the most informative…

Lessee… Write all the points down on some paper in clear and legible writing and then pop in to see your boss with the plus points you wanted to impress on…

Good Luck.

There’ll be a clause in your contract that basically says he must do anything that constitutes a reasonable request. If the additional job is within his drivers hours then it forms a reasonable request.

Also in addition to that, you knew there was no night out allowance paid and by accepting the job you have accepted that.

Basically it is too late to start complaining about no night out and the extra jobs you’re being asked to do are not unreasonable. Basically you have no leg to stand on so you have two options…accept it or leave.
