What would you do?

ibson:
There’s no need for that, I only posted my opinion, and a reasonable one at that, I also did it with out calling people thick or looking to intentionally offend, I can’t believe you are employed with an attitude like that.

And I only posted mine, which according to you, I’m not entitled to have.

Awwww…now now petal, don’t get your knickers in a twist.

Think main point is why should driver put his life at risk for protection of load if company is unwilling to pay for secure parking. when i park up i dont expect to be on my guard all night. i only checked mirrors as seen glint of main beam headlight reflect through window and observed but if was at time where i was getting my head down id just roll over and nod off

You are entitled, I never said you weren’t… I just stated that you shouldn’t be rude whilst doing it, that’s not why the forum is here.

I also don’t wear nickers to get them in a twist lol :stuck_out_tongue: I again only stated that I can’t belive you have a job! If I was your employer and read this thread I wouldn’t be best pleased to hear your opinions.

I avoid all such issues by refusing to do a night out…

It’s not my problem then if a load is being stolen. Just my personal solution…

ibson:
If I was your employer

But you’re not though…are you??

So off you go now flower.

I don’t think you should be asked to put your life at risk, if that’s how you feel you should bring it up with your employer.

Does your employer ask you to do this often or will they pay secure parking if you felt the need for it?

I wonder what would happen if every driver in the country refused to do nights out on the grounds of health and safety??  :grimacing:

I am not, that’s why I said “if I was” and once again, let’s keep it at an adult level and on topic, I’m not your wife, girlfriend or boyfriend so you have no need to call me flower.

You sound like you make the best of a bad situation and this is is a rare occurrence, it’s a shame your company doesn’t pay secure parking, but a lot don’t, and I suppose it’s down the the driver how safe he feels in a certain place.

It’s not your stuff, so if it gets nicked who cares? And it’ll be insured anyway.

Not a good attitude!! Be realistic. Goods nicked = insurance claim, insurance claim = higher premiums on renewal and then you would probably complain because you haven’t had a wage increase. Money can only be spent once and if it’s spent on insurance it’s not there for other things so it pays to look after your load, that way there may be money left for wage increase.

I have to agree with you xtruckerlady, as a transport manager and driver I find this attitude most annoying, I would not employ this gentleman or anyone with that attitude.

as a boss, i would have to agree with xtruckerlady

but, i think Ibson, you are being a bit harsh in saying that you would not employ this gentleman

i would not hesitate in giving this gentleman a job, hell, i would even supply the broom

No thanks, I’m not into that kind of thing.

If you want to stick a broom up your own arse…on you go…I’m not interested.

As someone who has in the distant past worked in the security industry,I wasn’t paid to be a hero,If you are reasonably sure that someone is intent on stealing the load ,by all means call the police,

But i would not suggest or expect a driver to get out and investigate if doing that could place him/her in danger,
There was a time that once challenged the would be thieves would flee the scene, nowadays it’s all too common that they are tooled up and wouldn’t hesitate using weapons on the driver,or on anyone else who may try and stop them
The same goes for hi-jacking, if they want the load they can have it, self preservation kicks in , no load is worth being seriously injured or worse for , in a worst case scenario will your boss look after you financially for the rest of your working life until retirement, should your injuries mean that you can’t work again ?
