If you do loads of trade with TNT, refuse to pay the bill and take your business elsewhere.
Their rep will be round ASAP to find out why they have lost business and they will also threaten to take to court to get the money.
Davey,
Have a look on EBAY mate
It is difficult, I did multidrop for United Carriers 25 years ago, We used to deliver to customers who were not in, leave boxes in dog kennels and porches, sign the notes ourself and deliver to flats with the porter / security bloke signing for things, never knew whether the customer got all the goods.
I had one regular run to Hull, and when delivering down Whitefriargate, there were always a couple of paraffin lamps waiting to help you unload. I have given them parcels to deliver and they came back with a delivery note signed and sometimes a cup of tea for us both
Things have changed a bit though
Surely TNT have been negligent therefore must be responsible for the full cost.
I know this is not totally relevant, but it is in the same vein.
Parcelnet do what is called ‘transit testing’. a selection of customers is contacted on a daily basis and asked if/when a certain parcel was delivered, or, if not, if a card was left. If things were not done to standard, then the courier could lose certain bonuses. It’s a good system which works quite well.
Also, copies of customers signatures are kept with the delivery manifests for (about) a year. If a company with so many couriers can do this, then why can’t the bigger ones? Is it cost, or just generally not caring. I know they have may repeat customers, but the idea could always be modified.
Davey Driver:
Okay you have a delivery for a company, 4 boxes, you arrive at the delivery point at 07:42 but the company does not open until 09:00.Your Job entails deliveries around that area but, a stranger stops you as your getting back in the truck and says just leave em next to the roller door and I’ll sign your ticket.
What would you do?
Simple isn’t it. Customer not around. Goto next delivery and try and squeeze him in again elsewhere on the route.
Even dropping it to a neighboring customer sometimes it won’t get there.
Look on the brightside! At least the driver reached the destination let alone got any further! I don’t even get that around here. They just “claim” to have visited… repeatedly…
The Plot Thickens■■?
Sent customer in Northampton 4 replacement boxes on Thursday by TNT clearly marking boxes with “Do NOT Deliver before 9:00am Must be signed for by Customers Goods in Only”
Called Customer at 11:45 on Friday to see if they had recieved them okay, Dunno Dave I’ll Check for yer.
Reply comes back, nope aint delivered them yet he must be leaving it until he’s in the area collecting this afternoon.
I Checked on T’internet yesterday morning and shows “out for delivery” so I calls TNT Northampton and spoke to cheryl ? think that was her name, gave the consignment number and she replies with the Customers Name and says, attempted delivery yesterday (Fri) at 11:30am but they were closed
So I point out that this company (Thunderpole AKA Astra Communications) are open 9:00 - 5:00 Mon - Fri and I spoke to them at 11:45 and they were open.
She then argues that it’s in the drivers interest to get all parcels delivered, so I once again point out that they are open ALL DAY so how can he claim they were shut?
She says the driver also tried to deliver at 10am on Sat morning but nobody was there, I dont know if Astra are open on a Sat morning but I’ll find out tomorrow.
I found out on Friday that Astra have CCTV of the outside of the premises especially goods in and keep the recordings for 2 weeks, so tomorrow, it’s a call to them to check their CCTV from 07:00 - 12:00 for Friday and 09:00 - 11:00 for saturday and we’ll see how their driver can claim there was nobody there.
So at this present moment in time, another £2450 worth of timers remain undelivered
I Think it’s Time Wellingborough Depot got their bloody act together and took control of what is becoming a blatant lack of service, and one things for sure, a letter is going to TNT head office with all the details of whats going on, and our area rep will be summonsed on monday to ensure that delivery is free of charge.
It sounds like the depot have real problems, they are just making excuses, And I have heard far better ones then those!! Just go with another courier, they would all want your type of business, you would probably get a rate reduction as well. As far as I can see you have given them a chance to rectify the situation and they have stuffed that up as well.
You could use the line, “Dont you know who I am”
The incompetence of TNT is here on the internet for all to see. If TK Dave prints this thread as well maybe the parcel companies will take notice.
I used to enjoy reading the test deliveries, where a customer (commercial Motor) sends a selection of parcels to various journalists and pre arranged points.
Some good excuses on that too
I would still have a look on Ebay
Must admit davey after the first time Id think again before handing over all that money in goods to them
Many moons ago, when they were big in this country,I used to work for Federal Express, and the policy was,no customer to sign,no goods left, simple as that. And like others,a card was left, and the parcel then delivered at a mutual time for all.
In my humble opinion Davey,it’s time to shift your business elsewhere,as TNT can obviously afford to lose your custom. There are plenty of carriers out there competing for trade,so it may be worth your while ringing one or two,and asking their reps to pop in for a chat.
In the meantime, you need to pursue your claim against these bunch of no-hopers,for the loss of your goods.
Ken.

Davey,Have a look on EBAY mate
Keep checking
There’s only 2 on there at the moment, one from a guy we sell to in Suffolk and one from Lincolnshire which looks second hand, along with it being the older version that was supplied in the clam shell instead of the boxed ones we do now.
I’ve got the PCB serial numbers off the missing ones so someone may be in for a shock if it is returned for warranty repair and is from one of the 4 boxes that went missing
Just wish I’d took the option of having the serial number label stuck on the box as well
