What would you do!

HI as you may know i am working vulantry as a van driver, Now there is a new guy that is with us for a short while he has a muck away buiness he donst have enough work on to take me on but has offerd to give me a refrance saying iv done some work for him, I am filling in a appliction now would you ues this weight lie it may well help me get the job ■■?. What would you do. Thanks Toad

Forget it. Once it comes out that you’ve lied, you loose all credibility and probably your job. Then explain to the next employer why you want a job. “I told lies to get the last one and got found out. Gissa job” Yeah, likely!

No-one gets anywhere telling lies.

Pete

that was my thinkig but after a year off been told no thanks you have konw experance it tempting, but when it does happen it would be much better sitting in the cab behined the wheel knowing its all my hard work that got me there.

Just a thought, but you could work for him “voluntary” instead of driving the van. That would give you experience and then you could ask him for a genuine, checkable, reference.

Don’t really agree with working for nothing, but as you already are, maybe it makes sense.

Good luck, Pete

yea i sergested just that to him but he thinks i wouldnt be coverd by his inshurance so no go but when he gets back ( he is in Afirca looking in to exporting trucks there) he is going to show me how to ues the roll on and roll off in his yard so will spend the day there with the grab as well so could say i have done a day just hellping out in the yard… :sunglasses:

As Pete said, its all well and good doing it untill you get found out and that could slightly bugger up getting work easily in the future.

By all means, have a go in the guys yard, that way not only do you get some experiance with the operation of it, but you can put what you have done down on your CV. It all adds up pal.

It is hard to find work when you have no experiance and is a visscious (never know how to spell that lol ) circle. Try registering with some agencies if you havent already.

What area are you based in?

Ben

hi ben thats what i am doing i think been honets will be best in the long run as allways thanks guys and good luck to you all if you are looking for work too ps im in Darlington…

On the bottom of your CV you could always put Ref on request then see what happens but I wouldnt lie it not worth it in the long run

Pete, your posts are normally so accurate!!! I can’t agree with this at all though!!

MPs make a career out of it, bankers, footballers. In fact, half the ‘celebs’/politicians/bankers etc. in the UK thrive on telling lies!!! Without lies they’d be found out so much sooner…

Having said that, in this case you’re probably right… :sunglasses:

trust an old guy one this one ! IF !u say u can do something ,one day some boss will ask u 2 do it !!! so, up 2 u , i.e. how much op. knowledge would u b required 2 have do u think? 2 convince a boss ? i ve done same e.g. tippers, but on 1st day i turned up early , (very) and asked 1st driver in, 2 run me thru controls as it"had been years since ive done this work and am a bit unsure"it worked that time , hasn t always thou !!!AND IT takes a hell off a HARD NECK2 own up and walk away , tail securely tucked …
