What would you buy?

Hello guys,
If you had a budget of 80 grand what truck and trailer would you purchase for European work? It can be ambient or fresh?

Hi Albaa, welcome along.

It’s a bit of a difficult question to answer without any further details. What do you have in mind?

5000 grand on a car and the rest on lottery tickets. Cos there’s ■■■■ all in haulage that’s for sure

Won’t get much choice for 80k. A new fridge trailer will be the guts of 50k.

You could buy a used truck and trailer. It would need some guts maybe 580hp Second had market is good. Thanks for the welcome

I’d look at a high horse FH and a carrier reefer trailer. Second hand clearly

DAF CF/XF & Schmitz cargobull:)

Daf, volvo, scania, all 500 hp for fuel efficency, the trailer would either be cherau or gray and adams with bpw running gear and a carrier fridge unit

Sod all.

stick the money in the bank and sub out the work

Definitely chereau on bpw and a thermoking

May be tempted to look at a Reault premium seem good soild trucks not the most popular but you will get a lot newer one for your money then some sort of gray and adams carrier set up as someone above said

There is a reason why they are cheaper! The French did the electrics, that should be enough to put anyone off!

for £80 grand, by 2 houses up north, paper and paint, rent them out, and get a better return than a bank or the haulage industry and not as many headaches.

Actually Renault Premiums aren’t that bad, I drove them at Nobby Dingledangles for a while
There again, I’ve driven a 58 plate 26 tonner Premium and that one was forever in and out of Renault at Boroughbridge…

I don’t think Renault would suit euro work maybe a magnum because space is a big factor if you are going down to Italy or Spain.

I drive an 11reg Premium with almost 670k on the clock and its only needed a new fan belt, 2 exhaust flexi pipes and an oil pressure switch in that time. I think that’s pretty impressive considering it usually runs at 44t with a decker from Glasgow to Leicester and back each night and I do multi drop round Glasgow with it during the day. I wouldn’t think twice about buying one.

I concur with you about the Premium, a very capable tool, all things considered. I drove 4 Premiums over an 11 year period, and all pre Volvo, on tramping doing 4-5 nights weekly. Only ever had minor wear issues on all 4, no major breakdowns.

As for the electrics, in my experience Renault had got its act together by the time the Premium came along, the earlier motors such as the Turboliner and G290’s that I drove were not quite as reliable on that score, but drivetrain wise they were sound too.
