Just wondering what will the drivers that wont be doing the CPC or say they wont be doing it… when the time comes??
Become Transport managers or planners?
Could open up alot of needed jobs.

Im planning on stacking shelves for the same or even more money than I
m currently on.
fruit and veg shop. and organising the biggest jewellery heist in british history. also looking for wholesale cocaine dealers. [zb] me i’m gonna be busy.
So a couple of shop workers then…but why not stay in the transport game… surely with the years of knowledge of working in the industry you would/should have it would be ideal?

it would still be working for a bunch of yes men, that accepted the dcpc, and sealed the demise of the industry.
they should have said no we arn’t having it. it’s pointless. if you force it on us, then we will close our gates.
It amazes me the shelf stacker arguement. As someone who has worked as a shelf stacker I can assure you you would want 25 quid an hour to do it.
i can second that… shelf stacking is mind numbing i ended up reading the packets most of the time…

How so?
Sorry but being new to this just asking the questions.

I’ll make my living flogging dodgy DCPCs
Seriously though I will be retiring early and buggering off back abroad

Since when has a transport manager had years of knowledge of the industry? TM is no job for a long in the tooth driver. Get a job in a 24 hour garage.
What will I do? Probably moan about it for a couple of years, look for a job in the local supermarket, then book a week of in August 2014 and do the cpc
I’m giving up too age 54 been driving HGV’s since 21 going shelf stacking Its not the training ( i.ve got the managment CPC ) but I don.t see why I should pay for it and this seems a good reason to get out I’m really going to miss it tho’

If you’re REALLY going to miss it … then why not do the training? it works out about £1 a week cost (as long as you don’t lose any work to attend). £1 a week to keep doing what you obviously like doing.
I agree that you shouldn’t have to pay for it but … until you find an employee who will pay then you’re stuck with that.

You may have missed that
Warehouse Staff not that bad paid anymore
How ever they load it gets the Drivers Fault if it collapses or turnes the Lorry over
No Night out
Close to Tea Kitchen
No hassl with Tacho to get Home
No hassl with expensive License for low Income (CPC,ADR)
You got the power, dont matter how stupid you are
Good chances making Friends under the Driver visiting your Site
Time to make extra money by doing Overtime without 48 hour rules
The thing is, if drivers don’t do the DCPC and have to leave the industry, there are two possible resulting scenarios: the first is there are fewer drivers so wages may go up, highly unlikely, but it is a possibility, or the second is, they are leaving the field open for the foreign drivers they complain about so much, and as a result wages will probably be forced even lower for those who do do the courses and remain in the industry. No prizes for guessing which way the employers would jump.
I have already said I will not be doing it, I’m fed up of doing these fluffy, useless courses. I had to do a CSCS course to allow me to get onto building sites. It took months to get through, just a paper exercise really, just so I could go onto sites to work for sometimes less than 15 mins. Then again my current company has not even mentioned it so they don’t appear to be interested either. I will look for a job driving a van around the local area, they are advertised all the time here, chemists, post office etc so I will try that.
I do think it will be interesting when it’s due though, given the current rate of take up there will be thousands not doing it in time. It will get to the stage where there is not enough course availability to get all those who want it/need it attending. Then what?
I like driving! I will drive a van as long as it doesn’t have a Tacho head fitted! Get paid the same hourly rate now anyway! Why should I pay to drive every five years!

And when the scheme is extended to include 3.5t vans?
