Something really embarassing i’ve actually dreamt about it… that I’ve not been strong enough to be able to do something, say if it’s tankers like connect the pipe to the trailer or whatever cause my dads a big fella and i’ve seen him struggle to do it sometimes

I wouldn’t worry about it too much Sam. The H+S bods have seen to it that you are not permitted to break a sweat in the line of duty these days, for fear you may hurt yourself.
In all seriousness, most tasks which appear to require a lot of strength actually just need the correct technique. You can substitute for the correct technique with brute force in many cases, but it doesn’t mean it’s necessary. You may well struggle initially through lack of experience, but you will soon teach yourself a technique which allows you to do the job (just as your dad has done).
I know a 22 year old girl, about 5’4" at best (has to stand on the drivers seat to see in the top lockers!) and who would stuggle to weigh in at 9 stone when soaking wet, and she can throw a 50kg set of chains across a low-loader just as well as me, and I’m not far off 15 stone!
the prev post is right sam you find ways of doing something like if i have to pull a full pallet of water bottles with a pallet truck sometimes i cant even make it wobble let alone move it but if i drop suspension on the truck it gives me a very slight hill to get it going and can move it or failing that theres always someone to ask that can give you a hand you will be surprised how many people are willing to help ,

Yeah I guess you’re both right, thank you! Quite clever dropping the suspension Jennie hehe It just would be really embarassing to drive all the way to wherever you’re going and not be strong enough to do something haha I guess it’s only really in a select few jobs you do that like with sewage tanks there’s more times than none nobody about to help.

Since my last post was deleted for no reason, I’ll try again. This is for the benefit of TNUK newbies.
Im looking for suggestions on ‘what if’ scenarios you feel you might come across when you are driving on your own.
i.e
What if I miss the pin - what do I do?
What if I notice smoke coming from my trailer tyres when braking - what do I do?
Ideas appreciated. It’s for your benefit!
miss the pin■■? easy raise your suspension up as far as will go drop the legs to the ground, lower suspension right down pull forward raise back up get out make sure 5th wheel in contact with trailer and hitch back up as normal. Used to happen to me a lot when doing euro work due to the lower 5th wheels we had and the UK boys would bring a trailer to Folkestone for us
Smoke from trailr tyres when breaking■■? in my experiance its the load sensor that is playing up and most likley when empty. Phone office and get someone out. IF they insist you drive back to the yard then only do so if you are ok with it BUT be careful as the tail does tend to swing a bit even more so when wet

Good good, things like this im looking for. Keep em coming so I can collate them into something a little larger for when the top secret project is complete…
What to do if you’re on the cat walk and the unit starts rolling, the obvious answer is just pull the red line again but most would rather jump off the catwalk and try get in the cab.
