What weight do public weighbridge go up to. About six weeks ago I had to go to Freightliner Doncaster to pick up a 40’ container and take it to a local weighbridge and get a weight ticket for it. I put it on the scales went to the office for the ticket and the woman said I can’t give you one as our scales only go up to 50 tonne and it’s over that. So I took it back to F/L. I thought they could weigh than that.
Most of the ones I know max out at 50t, after all when 44t is the legal maximum on the road there will be little demand for anything that goes much above that.

+1 I was 87t on 5 axles once (not in this country!) and the scales came up ERR. Not too bad a fine either!

The answer would have been to split weigh it, unit first, trailer second, add the two together.
We used to do this all the time, when weighbridges were often too short for a 40 foot trailer.
Better, perhaps, than going back without an answer.
Regards,
Nick
All the bridges I have known have been 50t

Nah, a crusher…
Don’t the freightliner lifters have scales built in?
I’d have thought a weighbridge would handle more than 50t for cat 2 stuff and things like that, but if it goes upto 50t and says it’s more than that, doesn’t matter what weight it is for a 44t, it’s too much
You can always drop the trailer on the plate or as suggested split weigh the thing.
There are quite a lot of 60tonne Bridges, just not many in Doncaster it seems.

As they were busy I don’t think they would have liked me splitting it and weighing it twice, that would also mean paying for twice and nobody wanted to pay at all.
The Frieghtliner lifters can weigh the boxes but this one was too heavy for them.
thanks for the answers.
I know of some 60 tonne bridges but most are 50 tonnes

i cant imagine what sort of cat2 load would need weighing, vosa dont bother putting you on the bridge if your running under stgo , as said above if i was heavy and wanted to know the weight we used to split weigh, same loading long beams in the steelworks, only way to get a ticket was to weigh it in 2 goes
vosa have recently been having a clampdown on the stgo boys the can now brake test and weigh all the axles individually at stafford and i have heard that if they find axle weights to be in excess of those stated on the movement order or dimensions of load and vehicle to be in excess they are prosecuting the companies concerned i know they parked up an stgo cat1 outfit of a manchester based heavy haulage company there recently for having inefficient brakes on the trailer
