What was ya best working years of your life

Driving or non driving.

1993 for me, working in a car manufacturing firm, press operating then moving onto stacka driving but became a great Job.

Met some life long friends there, and still to this day we all meet up now and again.

Ahead of me. The past is gone, I look to the future.

I worked at Stirlands of Nottingham for 17 fantastic years starting as a apprentice HGV mechanic then onto driving
Secondly 13 years working at Imperial Tobacco (John Players & Sons ) also in Nottingham as a driver/shunter

Last 50 years plus, 40 as owner driver have all been good, looking forward to a good few years ahead as I still enjoy the life, maybe at a slightly slower pace.

The last 20…

Years with all the H&S, trackers, hi-viz, nowhere to stop that doesn’t stink of wee, no cafe’s left and ‘logistics4U’, I’ve found tedious.
All of the different things I’ve done were all interesting and because I’ve never had kids, been reasonably profitable for me.
My final few years on fridges for Moy Park were good. Left alone to get on with it, no Spanish inquisitions, good kit and only 10 minutes from where I live.

Last two before retiring

Production welder for magna seating systems in Stapleford.
Late 90s.
4x 9.75 hour afternoon shifts mon-thur.
Unionised…extremely generous time and motions bloke.
Qouta knocked out in 6 hours(+ 25% for maximum production bonus)

Now!

I miss working down the pit, I miss the comradery more than the actual job itself, but enjoyed going to work each day for the crack. Driving and my group of fellow drivers have not got the same brotherhood as a group of miners have. Other than that I am pretty happy with the actual job that I do now.

Mid 1990s doing the ultra long haul Euro work. It’s just a means to an end now.

2003-2004, on for TEPS of Hull mostly out of Felixstowe. Pre-trackers etc, given a box number/PIN and left to get on with it, and the TM and lads in the office treated us like adults. Loved that job, they even transferred me from Southampton to Hull when I had to move back north for personal reasons - I just loaded the wagon up one Sunday and ended the week at t’other end of the and with a news Hull o-licence disc. I’d have stayed for years if life hadn’t got in the way. Happy days.

the next ones, theres a reason why im not still doing the same stuff I was doing in the past

The 2 years I worked at Butlins Bognor Regis as a young man. Happy days and looking back it was a great time I had!

Absolutely NOTHING that includes trucks and transport.

However…Mid to late 70s I was resident DJ at a local Holiday Camp for about 3 seasons :sunglasses:  .
Just picture it…Young single (good looking  ) lad, sports car, own chalet on the camp…with all the ‘‘fringe benefits’’.
I thought I was going to be the new Noel Edmonds  …(but NOT Jimmy Saville. )
I was like a local celebrity …but an insufferable poser.

My Mrs has used the same routine for years joking to people about it, and telling my kids (bearing in mind I was DJ in a holiday camp) that ''Your Dad used to be a CAMP D j ‘’

So if anybody on here is wanting a (out of practice aging) DJ, for an event …maybe don’t call me.

Great days that I’ll never forget…and one of the reasons I ain’t on Facebook (in fear of any possible…err repercussions ) …Are you my Dad?. :open_mouth:

They are getting better everyday

Last time I saw a pair of feet like that Dan, it was on a documentary about ‘‘The Yheti’’

The past, though I don’t remember what it was like because I was too drunk

When I was transferred from trainee engineer fire truck factory worker to works driver/test driver.
The around few weeks of decent agency work I did among all the crap.
The best days of job and finish night trunking before limiters.
The last trunking job I did for a couple of years finally driving the type of proper drawbar outfit that I wanted to drive from day 1.
Semi retirement now part time trade plating high end cars around the country working for a very good agency.
