God only knows what it was getting to the gallon.

I think they calculated fuel in gallons per mile with the Detroit

Youre right. Made in the USA though where fuel cost was so little at the time. Sounded nice though, even better was the 8V71 detroit.

Daf 2800 with 40ft tri-axle flat trailer… 4 days training then passed first time on the friday morning! In the good old days when you
could go straight from a car licence to a class one! Although I had my PSV so big vehicles were easy & I just had to crack the reversing!

Oh, and how much would it cost now? The whole five day course only cost me £500 back in the early 90’s - Happy days!

I passed in this:
…and, no, I wasn’t working for Co-op, lol

Edit, keeps cutting the unit off, fir some reason.

Only class 2 alas and similar to this Foden but with a different company. Not my pic. Twelve speed g’box, tilt cab, no power steering and a hydraulic throttle that kept losing pressure and revs, surprisingly passed 1st time though! Would love a drive in it again.

i was driving Ford D800 at the time with a 28ft single axle trailer…the standard at the time…the HGV licence or a test had not been invented…and what you were driving at the time…you were licenced for…so an artic was an artic and a rigid a rigid…never ever had to take a test…just got my boss at Spurlings…West ferry Lane millwall…to sign the papers…the rest is history.

scammel crusader when in army.

Leyland Clydesdale with 36’ tandem axle at Swynnerton, Staffordshire. The examiner was brilliant, ended up talking about camera’s as we both had an interest in them on the test. The speedo failed about ten minutes after I had passed, had it happened on my test I would have failed!

Passed on July 1995 in a Mercedes SK 1827 with a 6 speed box.

Ford t1000 26 ft trailer
