hi all i have the chance of doing european work and have always wanted to do it. having only 2years experiance of uk work so a bit on the nervous side of driving over the water.can any one give me a bit of advice of what to expect driving condtions etc all help appreciated.
Take a deep breath, climb up behind the wheel…and just do it
Dont quit at the first hurdle…you will come across a few hicups along the way, thats all part of the learning process…but then you will start to enjoy it …better roads, less traffic, better parking and driver facilities…maybe a little less pressure to be at a certain place at a definate time…and if your in southern Europe during the spring and summer then you have a lovely climate to work in to
(unless you have to sleep in the cab during the day with no aircon!!
)
Seriously, if you dont mind being away from home for a week or so at a time then better to do it in Europe than the UK IMHO.
Try and pick up a few phrases in a few languages…just the basics will go along way…“yes, no, please, thankyou, hello, goobye and count 1-10”…you will be amazed at the reaction and assistance you will get if you try and speak the local language.
And dont speed or try and fiddle your hours…the police over there love getting their hands on a brit with a few infringments
…and you will pay …usually right there and then…lots and lots so its just not worth it.
Stay legal, take your time, dont be afraid to ask…and enjoy it!!!
Good luck.
Take alook through the past posts here on this site as regards EUROPE
work and the trips abroad, place any type of question here and people will do their best to give you good and sound advice,
you will require to ensure that you have the road vingette when driveing in the countrys where it is in force. look at the following sites ,one is for the eurovingette mainly and the second is about the German road tax (MAUT);
As one of the members has stated keep your tacho,s free of offences as
the costs can be more than your wages allow,
Wear your seatbelt at all times as the controls for this offence are all over weither it is FRANCE–GERMANY–Austria, and this then allows them to do a complete vehicle check,
The standards of loadsecureing are of a high quaility and you if you do not complie the fines are high, --LOOK at ““USEFUL–LINKS”” HERE are afew sites that deal with this subject,
These are just a few points and the other members will add to the list when they have had a look most likely,
Make sure your map collection is up to date or your navigation programme
on your lap top.
JUST TAKE IT EASY AND YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF ENJOYING THE WORK ABROAD;
Brooksy, have a read of this post I made late last year after a 12 day trip to Portugal… check the lack of traffic etc etc … and the sunshine

Rubbish, I’ve had many a week end like that, unfortunately then the alarm went off and I woke up.
And we are still waiting for more details on that week end Bear, you could change the names to protect the guilty.
