I had my Class C course last week with training forxe/avon driver training last week was really good the bloke who trained me (kevin) was top class got me out a few bad habbits etc etc and ready for a test, however i failed as i acidentally entered a 7.5 ton weight limit. My trouble i have is they would offer me a re test at 275 but can’t as they are subcontracted by HGV Express who i took the course out with who want 450 for a retest. Do i cut my ties with hgv express and take the test at 275 but in the process lose the cpc i paid for, or do i approach another company do my test then go back to hgv express?
Your failure for entering a 7.5t weight limit area is somewhat confusing as you should be exempt for training and testing purposes? I trained and tested in Exeter which is a total 7.5T limit■■?
I would cut your ties with HGV express as they sound like a brokers and either find a cheaper retrain/retest or stick with the guys you know and pay their fee…the CPC elsewhere will be much less than £200
I would enquire about that failure though!
Regards
Tazbug
Firstly bad luck on the result.
Secondly do HGV Express need to know you failed the first attempt. Can’t you just rebook the CPC and then HGV Express will hopefully pay them appropriately.
Hope it all works out for you.
ETA: I agree that if examiner sent you into 7.5t limit then that would be specially dispensated for the test and would not be a reason for fail. I also tested in Exeter and had same situation as Tazbug.
The 7.5t limit will be correct it happens on Newcastle they take you to a roundabout that has 3 possible exits and you are told to take the 1 st exit Availabe to you, that happens to be the 3 rd exit as first 2 are not avail to yourself as your over weight for the road tricky but sadly true I know a few that have slipped up there
Hope this helps and better luck next time

I’m not saying you are wrong, but during my C test in Exeter, the examiner stated ‘Take the 2nd exit ignoring the weight limit. Whilst we are on test there is special dispensation for weight limits as in real life you may have to enter weight limited roads to load / unload’.
Thanks for all the feedback, the weight limit i entered was part of my independant drive which was second exit, the examiner did say follow signs for the ring road (1st exit) i just didn’t hear the instruction altough he said he repeated himself. My ideal scenario would be to go a retest with another company then go back to hgv express to complete my cpc however quite a few companies want to train you up again when you have already had training, any ideas on who to try for a retest in the somerset area?

Hi mainer,
Here’s a link to the TN list of recommended LGV driving tuition providers:
I’ve not been to all the providers in Devon, so I can’t comment on them, but I have been to SRTS in Exeter.
I can confirm that they have a great set-up and a very high test pass rate.
I was teaching ADR there for 5 days, and I don’t recall a single LGV driving test fail that week.
If you decide to go to SRTS, please give Steve (the boss) my regards.
Another good one is Jeff at Fairway in Barnstaple. He will meet in Taunton if necessary.
I second DD suggestion of SRTS. It took me two attempts but I was thoroughly impressed with the training.
And they are now based 30 seconds from Exeter Test Centre
Also depends which side of Somerset you are looking.
ATTS are ok in North Somerset. They are not located near a test centre though. It really depends on your reasons for changing schools.
If it was just bad luck on the day then there is surely no need to change school.
If you need retraining then you have the choice of changing schools and relearning the oddities of a new truck or… Just book a couple of hours with your current school pre-test
