What should a trucker earn?

What are the options I only see one choice per class of licence

1 million pounds a week as it is such a skilled dangerous job. Harder than been a brain surgeon according to what I’ve read on this site.

unless its you, in which case you’ll be happy on minimum wage. not forgetting to knuckle your brow to the guv’nor in gratitude for your job.

Bit of a vague question really. Narrow it down for us. Do you mean mon to Fri tramper, or weekend worker, or night man…

Minimum £10/hr first 8hrs mon-fri day, nights, weekends, over 8hrs etc is more…

Around 35k for an average 55/60hr week for class 1 is what I roughly earn’t on Agency and felt right to me at the time…

I personally do not believe class 2 drivers should receive a big penalty either, class 2 work is normally crap with lots of multi drop and you have to jump through exactly the same hoops as a class 1 driver, and tbh I think the majority of class 2 drivers are actually class 1 qualified in any case !

7.5t drivers ? hmm tough one, I really don’t know the answer to that…

every truck driver is worth what they apply for if a driver goes for a 6.30 an hour class one job the more fool him but the oh ski will be along to get it for 6.10 an hour driving will always be low waged long hours!

There are drivers and there are drivers.Lets face it any monkey can get a truck licence it aint rocket science is it?

Some drivers can do the job and get on with it and should be payed a good rate
And yet other should be payed in bloody washers

Shame is its the washer brigade who usualy get the most money and bleat about the job from Monday to midnight.

Some do a good days work and get ZB on and yet others do bugger all and get the money.
always been that way and always bloody will be.Lifes a ■■■■■.

Haulage is so varied, So it’s difficult to give a single answer.
Abnormal load work.
Day/night work to tesco’s/asda etc.
European/Asian work.
Hazardous.

The only similarities between the above is the fact that you need an HGV licence to do the work.
There are different levels of competence for each example.
I have an amount that i want to earn, and unless it’s a decent deal, I don’t do it.

It all depends on the level of interaction with the load, or, extra qualifications required to do the job in my opinion, adr etc. There should be a difference in pay or people would not do the more demanding jobs.

Nothing to do with bits of paper. An instance, a driver rang the other night with a jammed tail lift.He asked if there was anything he could do to get it down and stowed.I talked him through undoing the ram solenoid valve(no tools required) to lower the platform so he could put the lift away which he did.He saved the company about 300 quid in call out money and himself maybe 2 hours scratching his ■■■ waiting for stone hardy. Most of the tossers would have just sat on their ■■■■ and said “cant do that not my job”

Unfortunately the company I work for show no appreciation for the time and money he saved them.Thats the problem, people like him who show a bit of initative are thought no more of and probably less if the truth were known than the useless idle pillocks who think that anything other than sittin on their ■■■ behind a steering wheel is “not their job”

But anyone who past their car test after 96 has to do a test to drive over 3.5t

Generally you make your own earnings potential in this game after a few years, albeit with troughs and peaks when recessions and licence holder oversupply hit, if you do a good job and are reliable you get good references and are known as being professional/competent and you progress to better jobs.

If you winge throw sickies unreliable incompetent, cause negligent damage regularly or just a miserable useless twerp don’t be surprised to find yourself stuck in low pay permanently as word gets about.

Good jobs don’t come and get you, you earn them.

Good drivers should be on £30k for 45 hours mon to fri daytime hours, more when shifts/weekends/overtime are required.

No driver should be working any more than 60 hours a week, its not 1963 its 2013, the days of fiddling POA and other dodgy practices in order to clock up 80 hours for a standard weekly wage should be consigned to history, as should counting night out money as part of your pay.

The glory boy is not a new phenomenon, i worked with a bloke who told our gaffer at the time that he’d accept £25 a week less if he swapped his 2300 daf for one of the 2800s, that was around a 25% cut, gaffer didn’t accept his offer and the bloke moved on, i’d worked with him before and he was just as much of a plank then.

One of the best jobs i ever had was on Kwik Save, lorries were nearly all day cabbed little motors Scani 3 series which were brilliant for the job in hand, with the all round vision and short wheelbases you could get in anywhere, no glory boys would lower themselves to drive such motors, consequently the job never got carved and the terms and conditions stayed excellent…thats been the case at other jobs too the reverse of all flash no cash syndrome.

No the prop would shear before you did any real damage.Swedish crap.

Best paying job I had I drove a 12 year old f90 MAN roll on roll off no glory boys on that job.
